I took a break from Lady Sherlock for a couple months to read other stuff, and was excited to dive back in! As usual, the plot mechanics are dizzying and the character development is satisfying. This novel stands in contrast to the first three books in a couple ways. I appreciated that the central mystery was theft, as opposed to yet another grisly murder. There are also new social themes or commentary introduced centering around colonialism and social class.

My one quibble with The Art of Theft is that the plot setup relies on a couple of circumstances that strain credulity..... the crime world is small, but is it really THAT small?

I like the addition of Mrs. Watson’s former love. I missed Sherlock solving simple mysteries. Somehow I get a little lost between the set up and the results. I think it could use some more explaining in between, the last book did that well by looking back and reviewing the things that were going on behind the scenes. Waiting so patiently for Charlotte and Lord Ingram to get together!! And such a lovely start for Livia, hopefully this turns around.

Not my favorite in the series, too preposterous of a premise, but still enjoyable.

Forgive me, reader, for not speaking of this series sooner. It is spectacular, and if the idea of a female Sherlock Holmes & female John Watson solving crimes in Victorian London appeals to you, run to the library or bookstore to start A Study in Scarlet Women immediately. Sherry Thomas brilliantly sets up some complex mysteries & personal relationships while also tackling social issues.

This one involved a heist!! I love a heist.

I actually prefer Sherlock as a female. If you like this try Miss Sherlock on HBO.

The Art of Theft is the fourth installment of the Lady Sherlock series.

In this, you are following the gang trying to steal certain blackmail material. Honestly, I was kind of excited to see what a Yuletide ball would look like. Also, I was happy to see Livia tagging along. Mostly because I wanted to her more about her book and to see if she was actually going to finish it. She's close and I'm hoping in the next book it's completely done.

Besides that, we get the dangerous job that kept everyone on their toes. Okay, mostly me but still. It was pretty hard for me to narrow down my suspect pool. Mostly because I didn't trust anyone when it came to this blackmail. Oh, and who was actually behind it because it could be anyone. Ya know?

In the end, everything happened at a fast pace. I also enjoyed the heart to heart from Charlotte to Livia about her book. Definitely enjoyed this book and I'm excited for the next one after that epilogue.
