A very different Christie. Not just set in Egypt but Ancient Egypt.
The story is that Imhotep (not that one) has left his household to assist with government. On his return he introduces his family (2 sons - Sobek and Yahmose, their wives - Kait and Satipy, a daughter - Renisenb an elderly mother, Esa and a nephew, Ipy (plus family retainers, Hori and Henet) - to his new concubine, Nofret. The addition of Nofret throws the household into chaos. Nofret upsets everyone and its no surprise that the household turns on her.
Of course there have to be murders in a Christie and there's plenty of those but telling you about any of them would ruin the story.
All you need to know is that it's a typically wonderful Christie with lots of misdirection and red herrings. However I've actually learned a thing or two down the line and I'm proud to say that I actually got the perpetrator right first time. I feel appropriately smug.
Read it. It's great.

A book by Agatha Christie far away from England =)
All was well in the house of the high priest Imhotep until he brings home his new concubine Nofret. Under the effect of her viper's tongue, a lot of old bitterness and hatred reappeared and when words are not enough, bodies began to pile up ...
I enjoyed this book which is set in ancient Egypt. The author has done a lot of research to make the story very realistic and I liked the different characters, especially Hori who would have made a perfect detective and Renisenb who's really changing throughout the book (although sometimes she's a little daft).
If the plot was well twisted, I found the end a little too quick and easy ...
In short, a nice book but not worth a good Hercule Poirot =)

As with all of the Agatha Christie books that I have had the pleasure to read, I enjoyed this one. However, Death Comes as the End is a very different sort of book compared to what Christie normally wrote. Yes, it's a murder mystery, but it's also historical fiction, set in Egypt during the time of the Pharaohs. In the introduction, it was mentioned that this is the first -- and only -- book that Christie ever wrote that was placed in the past.
But I loved it. I haven't read a lot of books about Egypt in that time period, and aside from the enjoyment from reading about the historical perspective, it was also -- in many ways -- a typical mystery by Christie. So of course I enjoyed that as well.
I'd recommend this to pretty much anyone. I don't think you need to be a diehard Christie fan to enjoy it, although that definitely helps by upping the enjoyment factor! :)

I think I do not like murder mysteries. This is my third Agatha Christie, but I haven't enjoyed any of them. The characters are boring to me and I end up just wanting to skip to the end to know "who did it". This book was more interesting than the other 2 I have read - since it was set in Egypt and wasn't the same detective as the others. However., I still was never intrigued or excited about any part of the plot.
