A more readable and understandable sequel, this could mostly replace Syllabus. I am blown away with what Barry can expect (and apparently get) from her students, in terms of commitment, decorum, homework, etc. This book makes me want to try some of the exercises, but even more, it has me rethinking what I can and can’t get away with in teaching.

This was one of those books that well before I finished, I started recommending to everyone. I can't really picture a person whose life wouldn't be bettered by this Making Comics.

Why is Lynda Barry so good?
Why can’t I just do this (drawing, writing, making) with other people all the times?

The beginning of this book is fire, just so great. As someone who works with children, I can corroborate all of the points Lynda Barry makes about the psychology of art and story as it functions for children. The rest of the book was intriguing, but mostly it just made me wish I could take an actual in-person comics class with Lynda Barry and a bunch of other students.... a lot of the exercises and assignments are ones that really require a legit group of people for the full experience.

This book is incredible. A total feast for the eyes and the creative mind! If you're interested in learning about creativity from someone who lives and breathes the work, you need to pick this up!

The majority of this book is tactical exercises to help develop stories, and they're hilarious and deep and brilliant. They make creating infinitely more accessible. It would be super fun to do these exercises with kids, because they enthusiastically invite our inner child to play!

I'm not a comic book artist, but I'm excited to take these ideas, concepts, and exercises with me into my own creative endeavors in other mediums.

I'm also very excited to read more from Linda Barry. I put tabs on nearly every page of this book with ideas and quotes I want to remember!

This book is going at the top of my list of best books on creativity. Highly recommend!
