Ahhh so good! The cast of the newest movie was sooo perfect, they definitely matched up so well with the characters in the book. I watched the Winona Ryder/Christian Bale version of the movie when I was younger, and I definitely didn't understand why it was better that Jo ended up with Bhaer at the end (I was probably in middle school at the time so...). The in December I saw the new version with Saorise Ronan as Jo and it was so so so good that I wanted to read the book! And to be honest, now that I'm 23 I'm HERE for Amy/Laurie and Jo/Bhaer (even if the movie made him much younger than his character). I really enjoyed reading the original story lines and comparing them with the movie. I think the WR/CB version was a little more true to the story, but the new version definitely made it more relatable and acceptable to modern audiences while maintaining the themes of the original story. When I have children, I will definitely get them to read this book when they are younger than I am now at my first time reading it!

I think this book might be more of a 4 star than 5, but it gets a bump for the nostalgia factor. It's a lovely classic book, with a beautiful portrayal of so many different, varied women. I cried, I laughed, I occasionally got frustrated at the very old-fashioned moral lessons (especially those aimed at young girls) before reminding myself it was written in a different time... Overall it was as lovely as I remembered it being, though. Also interestingly, I really liked Amy a lot more, reading this as an adult. I remember disliking her as a child, I have no idea why, except that perhaps I was in more of a "younger siblings are annoying" stage? Oh well. All the sisters were wonderful.

nothing but love for these little women <3 seriously, the way the author tells us about sisterhood, coming of age, girlhood, grief, love and so many more things is so endearing and makes you want to live with the characters and root for them as they grow into beautiful people. the flaws of the character make them feel so real, it shows that they were based off of real people, because they feel so humane, and you'll want to be friends with them

I had decided to read this because I love the movies (seen both the Emma Watson and Winona Ryder versions) and hate saying this but I liked the movies more. I just found the book so dry and boring that I had to switch to audio just to finish it. Nothing wrong with it at all and I still lightly cried at the right parts (although the movies made me sob, even when i knew it was coming) but maybe because of the age of writing I just didn't love it.
