I think this was the perfect length and was a wonderful, bite-sized peek into the past! And did a lovely job of describing one of life’s worst experiences.

It was interesting to learn about Odrin’s past, but I feel Effie, Odrin’s parents, Effie’s parents, and the village as a whole could have been fleshed out more, as well as what happened in the ten years Odrin was gone. Like TNAIM, the potential is there, but the novella falls a bit flat. Some moving sentences in there, though, and I did enjoy the ending line.

This novella was so heartbreaking, so tragic, but oh so beautiful. I hadn’t realized it was meant to be read as book one, I read it as 1.5, & I loved gleaning more information about Odrin’s past. His story told from his perspective as he grows & embraces his past mistakes is so beautiful. & while I knew what was coming, it really did nothing to quell the heartache. Bra-freaking-vo.

When we were first introduced to Odrin in The Night and It’s Moon, we didn’t know much about his backstory. Here, we learn more about his life, and the pain he has endured. What he has sacrificed as a Reever, and a human.
