I enjoyed this book although it felt like an introduction into the larger story at hand. The action really seemed to pick up in thr later third of the book.

I am not a monster fantasy girl. I find it soooo hard to care about fighting demons and monsters and unknown entities. I like it when the enemy has tangible goals and motivations. While this book does have human villains, the main conflict is either monsters or an obscure evil presence. This is what prevents me from fully enjoying the book.
My favorite part of this book was sorasa and dom. I liked the push and pull if their relationship. I love the idea of a mercenary assassin slowly caring more about other people. Each character independently is really interesting, but its sooo many perspectives. I think i would enjoy this more with less perspectives.
I am invested in erida. I want to see exactly where victoria aveyard is going with the colonial imperialist plotline. Im also invested in andry’s character development. He is such a cutie. I dont like him with corayne tho, lowkey boring.
