in all seriousness i was hoping for a more cohesive story but it was still cool to learn about norse mythology (albeit through neil gaiman's eyes) in much greater depth than i have before. the ragnarok chapter was particularly interesting, as was the story about thor's journey to the land of the giants, and the "mead of poets" chapter was quite funny (though i wonder if the odin's-ass mead of poets is canon or just gaiman being silly). i was a bit frustrated how so many stories revolved around marriage to freya being offered as a prize for various bets (which tbf there was maybe only 2 but more than 1 is ridiculous tbh), etc., but again i assume this is canon to the mythology and not gaiman being an ass 🙃

Interesting. I would say that this rendering of the Norse Mythology does not cause me to become caught up in the "Northern-ness" which captivated the likes of Lewis and Tolkien. I appreciate the retelling of the stories, and Gaiman captures the folly and grandeur of the Norse vision well. His Loki is at times your favorite character, at times despicable, and always confounding. Thor is as thick-headed as can be, in contrast with the more sympathetic Marvel character. Odin is akin to Zeus in his craftiness and scheming (Loki is clearly a distilled form of this side of Odin).
The language, however, is somewhat stilted and dry. This is surprising, as normally the epic can be written with flair and wordsmithing, but Gaiman's version feels almost like a too-literal translation at times.

Felt a bit like a re-read as I've read/heard all these stories multiple times throughout my childhood. I've never read them in english though, so that part was new.
I was expecting to like the book but I was surprised by how much I actually enjoyed it. It honestly just made me happy maybe a little nostalgic.

Neil Gaiman manages to tell saga's with a modern twist, and makes them easy enough to read and understand with little to none knowledge of the stories. Sometimes it is difficult to remember some of the minor characters because they might only show up in 2 stories and they are relatively far away from each other

Really enjoyable compilation and reading through audible. I appreciate having the main stories placed in a logical order for me, even though I understand that mythological time doesn’t work that way. I also appreciate the modern retellings, with wording and emphasis that makes the gods and goddesses feel as clever and humorous now as they must have been all those years ago.
Bel primo approccio con la mitologia norrena, immagino ci siano libri più completi in tema ma non avendo familiarità con gli Aesir l'ho apprezzato, soprattutto la parte finale, quella che parla del Ragnarok.
Pensavo fosse più romanzato, mi aspettavo un prodotto simile o sull'onda di American Gods, invece è una presentazione del pantheon norreno e le vicende principali degli dei.

Hoje vim-vos trazer um vídeo que já queria que tivesse saído há muito tempo, mas só me foi possível gravá-lo recentemente. Esta foi uma das minha leituras de Abril, e foi uma leitura muito enriquecedora!
Este livro de Neil Gaiman reconta as tão famosas histórias e lendas da mitologia nórdica, envolvendo os três principais deuses desta adorada mitologia. Odin, Thor e Loki. Estes três deuses estão presentes em quase todas as histórias deste livro.
Penso que posso dizer que é um livro de contos, visto que cada história é pequena e o livro é composto por muitas. É um livro com uma escrita muito engraçada, mas também sabe ser sério quando tem de ser, contudo, a versão da escrita engraçada é predominante. Muitas das situações que eu interpretei como cómicas, envolvem Loki na maioria delas.
Neil Gaiman é um exímio "re-contador" de histórias, dado que, logo no início do livro, o autor escreve uma nota introdutória muito honesta e humana. Dizendo que, com este livro, pretende apenas recontar algumas das histórias e peripécias da mitologia nórdica que foi ouvindo ao longo dos anos, com alguma pesquisa por trás.
O livro é de facílima leitura e penso que, mesmo aqueles que não gostam de ler e, no entanto, gostariam de saber um pouco mais acerca da mitologia nórdica, conseguiriam fazê-lo com este livro, dada a sua escrita simples e de fácil entendimento, sendo uma ótima entrada para a mitologia, e um possível futuro estudo da mesma.
