I loved reading this book and learning more of North Mythology, the humour of Gaiman does the job and It's a fresh book when you wanna read something simple and funny. It's an introduction of this mythology, someone who's already fond of this, will surely find this book a bit disappointing or annoying.

Huge fan of Neil Gaiman, the ultimate story-teller which is why his books MUST be heard through his stunning voice. I was voraciously reading his books, and American Gods is my 2nd least favorite, it's too bad he's not well-known for his other more beautiful works like Fragile Things, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Wolves in the Walls, Fortunately, the Milk, and my favorite: Neverwhere. I stopped reading Gaiman after The Graveyard book, which was not only way grim and dark, it left me feeling empty and spooked out. Still, love the author and love mythology. This was my first introduction to Norse Mythology and it's thoroughly enjoyable. Gaiman tells us about his early fascination with the Norse gods and goddesses and how the fascination grew over the years after childhood. He puts his own spin on these stories, with the unique sense of Gaiman humor, drama, and fascination. The stories seem to be standalone but sometimes he references some of the events so it's good to go through it in the right order. You will get an unforgettable take on the most prominent gods, Loki, Thor, Odin and their 'enemies' of sorts, the frost giants. The stories are funny, hilarious, entertaining, and uplifting even and while these stories don't always spell out the morale of the story, I enjoyed them immensely. Listen to the audible version. It's SO good!
My favorite passage is from the very end:
Heimdall: I can see further than you can, Loki. I can see all the way to the world 🗺 tree 🌳 . Two people have hidden themselves safely in the trunk of Yggdrasil. The woman is called Life and the man is called Life’s Yearning and their descendants will populate the earth. It’s not the end. There is no end. It’s simply the end of old times. And the beginning of the new times. Rebirth always follows death. 🌎♥️💗🌎

Re-read. First time I read it was in Swedish. Very well-written, you can tell Neil Gaiman did his research and it was mixed in som humour as well. The only thing I can say I was missing, was pictures. Not something I usually need from books, but it would have been fun to see, maybe in the same style as the front cover :)

good audiobook for a road trip
Fun!
Especially fun since I played God of War recently and already had some background info into Norse myths from that game. It was fun to see how things were different...
Loki is clearly the most fun character, though his eventual fate seemed way too harsh for the mostly harmless pranks he pulled... well, ok, he caused Baulder's death, but it's not his fault that the gods were tempting fate by trying to kill the guy.
Actually, Loki was quite honourable most of the time. I mean, he'd promise people things in order to get out of sticky situations, but then he'd actually follow through on those promises even though he could have just....not. Eg when the eagle released him in exchange for the immortality fruit. Once he was released, he didn't have to actually give the fruit over.
Honestly, this book was a lot of fun. An interesting and engaging collection of cool stories from Norse Mythology.
The first Neil Gaiman book that I thoroughly enjoyed.
