Enjoyable, funny and groundbreaking in its genre.

I know I wasn't "supposed to" like this book, and part of me didn't, but I'll admit I have a certain guilty-pleasure-fondness for it. Sort of how I usually drink red wine or good beer, but every once in a while crave a nice sugary daiquiri. It's nice to let the editor/English major side of me rest every once in a while.

Bridget Jones. Sure it’s a bit of a time capsule, but it’s fucking funny. I even found myself thinking in Bridget's short, clipped sentences while I was reading this. It was a joy to read, and I'll always love the movie. Your opinions mean nothing to me, and I won't be swayed. Bridget forever, as far as I'm concerned.

I find, as a millennial, the number of phone calls being made truly horrific though. Absolutely not. My phone has been on silent for at least a decade at this point. Truly showing age now.

I will admit that Bridget Jones's Diary was witty and occasionally funny, but not enough to make it worth the read. Bridget claims to be a radical feminist but can't seem to function without a man in her life, even if that man has done horrible things to her. Bridget is annoying and hypocritical, although not as bad as her mother.

I've watched the movie 100 times, and my Mother said that it's better than the book - so I never bothered with it. For the first 1/3 or so, I agreed, but that's where the movie plot similarities ended. Story wise, the movie is better (Mark Darcy jumping through windows and chasing thieves in Portugal was wild) - as a medium for entertainment, the book takes the prize. This is the funniest book I've ever read, and I'm glad I waited til I was 22 to enjoy it properly.

A funny, enjoyable, light read that was just what I ordered. Bridget Jones is funny, a bit ridiculous, and I should take a few more pages out of her book.
