306. Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding (Novel-Physical-Fiction) 4* ...and just barely. Touted as a “hilarious” read and appearing on many “must read before you die” lists I thought to give it a go. I must have lost my sense of humor along the way. Written in the format of a diary by the protagonist of the work, Miss Bridget Jones, a modern woman who finds herself at thirty-ish without a significant partner and dealing with diets, alcohol consumption, cigarette smoking...she counts everything, almost excessively. I did find the read somewhat amusing especially in her relationship with her mother, who is the most entertaining character in the book. I can relate to Bridget as probably a good majority of the readers (did you need to remind me Ms. Fielding?) so therefore can not discredit the book, I just can't count it as a someday classic.
I have to admit, I saw the movie before I read the book.
And what I garnered from the movie was
1. Daniel has an beautiful apartment, with walls and walls of floor to ceiling bookcase.
2. Mark Darcy is played by Colin Firth, so he wins forever.
This book is on the BBCs list of books to read, so despite having no initial desire to read it, I read it.
And I was not disappointed.
