This is a fun, escape love story about young medical student, Reece, and the Amish family she gets to know and love when the 7 year old boy becomes a patient. Besides being a love story, it's a story about following your own path even when it means veering away from the path your parents carefully laid out for you.

Good read. Gets a little romance novel-ish at times.

Between you and me by Susan Wiggs
Have read many other works by this author and know this will be a good read also.
Starts out with a young mother having just given birth and she will be giving away her son, it's for the best.
We then find an Amish family and a terrible accident has happened with sharp blades...
As the story goes along you learn new things about the Amish way of things. Jonah is the young boy that is being transported to the hospital, his nephew. Caleb finds the hospital so unfamiliar.
Dr. Reese in the trauma section helps Caleb in the city, get clean clothes, food to eat, place to stay because Jonah will be recuperating a long time.
Like how she helps him around while his nephew is getting better, it's all so foreign to Caleb. Once he returns to his lands the govermnet want to take the kids away...
Story also follows Reese and her new path in specializing in her doctor career...
Amazing how they are brought together...
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

I loved this book! It gives you a look into the world of the Amish and the differences between Amish and Englishers. Caleb is an excellent uncle who cares so much for his niece and nephew. Reese is a med student who falls for Caleb...but can their worlds mix? They both have controlling parents who want to run their lives. Can they be happy together??

Beautiful story and such a sweet twist at the end. I would love to read a follow up about these characters!

1. The premise of this book was good, however, it was poorly written.

2. The narrator Tanya Eby did an excellent job.

3. The book cover asks, “How far would you go to keep a secret”? What secret is the author talking about?

4. The language was gratuitous. I find an author’s writing ability lacking when offensive language is constantly used.

5. There were several unfinished storylines. What happened to Caleb’s relationship with his mother after his visit to Florida. When Caleb left the city Leroy was never mentioned again. What happened with Reese and her parents at the end?

6. I find it frustrating that the woman always has to compromise her desires and goals in the end to make a relationship work. Why couldn’t Reese go to California and still figure out a way to make the relationship work with Caleb? I also had a problem with Reese’s proposal to Caleb.

7. Caleb proposed marriage to a woman on her deathbed, which was witnessed by Reese and it was never discussed.

8. Hannah birthing a baby in the house without Caleb’s knowledge was unrealistic. How could she give birth and Caleb not hear the baby cry?

9. The purpose of the Safe Haven law allows a mother to safely give up her child without prosecution. The author violated the spirit of the law when Reese forced Hannah to reveal her identity as the mother without fully understanding the ramifications she would face within the Amish community. This portion of the book was a cataclysmic failure.

10. The book went downhill when Caleb returned home after Jonah’s accident.

11. The end of the book was rushed and disjointed. The book ended with Caleb and Reese and nonsensically transitioned to a confusing epilogue. I dont understand why the epilogue POV switched to Jonah.

This was a sweet romance about an Amish man whose nephew is injured in a terrible accident and needs extensive medical treatment, and the doctor he meets at the hospital. Caleb and Reese were great characters, both people who’d never quite fit in with their communities. I really enjoyed the development of the relationships with the side characters as well. It was a well-fleshed out world.

A story focused on relationships with setting focused on an Amish community, their faith and challenges they might face when an accident causes interaction with the English or non Amish. Portrayal of the Amish community shows both good and bad. The book also deals with family expectations both in the Amish community and the modern world. Central characters include Jonah, Hannah, Caleb and Asa Stoltz members of an Amish family and Dr. Reese Powell. Caleb is looking after Hannah and Jonah whose parents were brutally murdered and they all live with Asa his father in the Amish community of Middle Grove. When Jonah is seriously injured in a farm accident Caleb goes against the traditions of his community when he allows Jonah to be helicoptered to a medical facility and two world intersect. Dr. Reese Powell has been on a straight trajectory plotted by her parents and her interactions with Jonah and Caleb cause her to evaluate her planned future.
