Solid and smart read. Kept going in different ways that I did not expect! I look forward to the rest of the series.
I liked this book when I was 13, I guess it should've stayed in those memories.
This book was enjoyable, but it seemed to have trouble deciding what form it wanted to take.
On one hand, it was a medical/science thriller about a team of scientists trying to analyze and isolate a strange infection.
On another, it was a military adventure about a team of special agents scrambling to contain the same infection, and dealing with the violent afflicted.
On still another, it was a body horror story about an infected man and the creeping progress of his disease.
While Sigler covered all three story lines adequately, dividing up the book in this fashion meant that the three very different types of atmospheres had no chance to fully develop. This had the unfortunate effect of minimizing my engagement with the story. I remained a spectator without becoming fully invested.
It's worth a read, and I plan to read part 2. But I think with a bit more focus it could have been truly impressive.

Heads dangerously close to Stephen King territory, but fortunately stops just in time to remain a good thrilling read.

A really creepy story. I loved what the author did with this book, I haven't read such a good horror novel in a while. Apparently there's a sequel, which I hope is as good as the first.
I think it's safe to say I never read a book quite like this one! I enjoyed the author's narration. He did a good job. The story was super freaky, but really good.

This was a fun listen! Kept me engaged and I was interested in the main characters. Some scenes are really graphic to hear but I loved the detail overall of the book. I’m looking forward to finishing the others in the series!
