It started out slow and kinda just stayed there. Just when I thought it was starting to get exciting ... then nothing. The climax was very anti-climatic so much so that I didn't realize it was the climax till after I'd finished the book.
This was so gory and gross but it was a great apocalyptic- invasion of the body snatcher tale. The descriptions literally made my skin crawl.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers on speed. Something like that? Two angles. One; the science. How the government is trying to figure out what it is that's making people go berserk, keep things under the hat and work on a solution. A bit dry sometimes, at first anyway, but with solid to strong characters and a spooky organism certainly not dull.
Two; the battle of one of the infected. An ex-football star. 'Scary' Perry Dawsey. But something else is scarier now. And it's inside him. It made me think of one of those engrossing vids on YouTube where people remove creepy-crawlies from (inside!) their body. The horror. Truly disgusting. And Perry's ordeal is even worse. It had my last meal bouncing up and down in my stomach multiple times. Things might get somewhat ridiculous when the parasites start developing, but it has a wicked sense of humor about it as well, so it didn't bother me.
In fact, it's hilarious at times. Perry goes apeshit and it's just as sickening as it is entertaining. And there's a bit of mystery to it as well. It certainly made me curious about those triangular baddies. Good taste? I guess not. My taste? You bet. More fun than I expected. The bugs had me hooked! Not like Perry though. Thank god for that. The horror..

As I was handed the novel, I couldn’t help but judge the book by its cover. As I flipped it over, I said, ‘You bought a book written by a novel podcaster? Really?” Needless to say, I didn’t have any faith in this book.
I, however, have to say that I enjoyed it. Not all of it, but some of it. It was a quick-paced book with short choppy chapters (which I happen to enjoy).
The writing is Fail (with a capital F), but I kept reading it. It has an amazing story idea. The plot was interesting. The attempts at character development were a joke though. The author was always taking the reader on tangents that weren’t important to the main story and really didn’t add anything.
So, I’m just reading along willing to overlook the horrible writing for the sake of a good story, and BAM! I am hit upside the head with an ending that comes OUT OF NOWHERE!
What was Sigler thinking? Why did he have to go there? It totally took me out of the story and tore down anything sort of good storyline that he had built up. Smashed it to a million unrecognizable pieces.
And when I turned over the last page, all I could think was, ‘What do you mean this is part of a trilogy?’ Am I intrigued by the other books? Sure. Do I plan to read them any time soon? No.

Entertaining, but don't think too deeply about the science and the plot or you will end up poking holes in them.
This is a five-star blockbuster if I ever saw one. I was sucked in from the start and it never let up until the very end. But, you know there's more and I can't wait to dive into more. Scott Siegler's character development and the way he sets a scene is phenomenal. Subtle at first, but then not so much. I loed this joyride and recommend it to anybody wanting a gripping read that doesn't mind a little gore and violence but wants a strong developing plot. I'm not going to rehash the synopsis here, you can see it here, but know if you're debating on whether to read it or not, take a chance. I did and I don't regret it. About to dive into the second one today.

Really liked the gruesome descriptions, the mix of situation with out hope and character stubbornly trying to solve it with brute force was delightful way to torture audience me. Sigler
I listened to audiobook which was narrated by author himself and enjoyed it.

This book should cause me to lose a few pounds because now my stomach is queasy.
When I started the book I was all fangirl because I love some contagion books. Yes, I know I have weird tastes in books.

Some kind of contagion is sweeping a town, it causes people to go completely nuts and to kill the people around them. A seventy something year old Grandma kills her son because of it.
Then before the bodies of the assailants can be looked at they rot, completely turn to mush, and an odd fungus looking stuff.
Things of daydreams right?
Then a former football player gets infected. Perry Dawsey is a big guy, he has been known for his horrible temper but has settled into a boring office job. Once infected Perry fights back. He has blue triangles growing in his skin!

There are others that have been infected. Then the triangles start talking to each other......then start hatching.

I've had the third book of this series on my kindle for awhile and thought I would finally pick this one up to see what all the fuss was about. It was kind of a medium opening for me. I will finish the series but not at this moment.
