Kept my interest long enough to want to see how the trilogy plays out. Not a fantastic read, but entertaining enough.

This is not a story about an infectious disease. It is about a parasitic infestation.
✨3.5
”With a sudden start of horror, he saw bomb-run droplets of blood on his underwear. Pulling the waistband out, he looked down. A sigh of relief— no blood on his testicles.”
This story begins with a grizzly murder and then followed by two cops raiding a house in the suburbs. As the story progresses, Triangles are appearing on people, one of which is Perry Dawsey. As Perry becomes infected, the government is scrambling to get a live infected person. During this search, Perry is trying to make sense of the Triangles appearing on his body and the new voice in his head.
One of the saving grace in this book was the vividness of the gore. The scenes of Perry tearing out the Triangles from his body were so vivid that I was cringing in pain while reading. The best part, for me, in this novel, was the gore. It was so immersive and detailed.
The downside of this novel was the reveal of the Triangles. The Triangle hatching was horrifying. However, the description of these Triangles wasn't. It was downright comical in the story reminding one of the creatures from Dreamcatcher. Removing the Triangles from their host was a terrible decision. It would have been horrifying if the Triangles had grown eyes instead of ”hatching” from their hosts.
Overall, the gore is amazing and I can’t wait to read the next book.

This is one of those books where you should prepare yourself for an unsatisfying ending because the book continues on in a sequel. What there is in this first volume is a good read that's not for the weak of stomach. An original twist on bodysnatchers.
"Infected" by Scott Sigler is a gruesome adult tale of infected ordinary people turning into raging psycopaths who kill their families and everyone around them before most end up taking their own lives. Then their bodies decompose at such an accelerated rate, the CDC doesn't have time to examine the remains to determine what exactly is causing these symptoms. I listened to the "Director's Cut" Audio CD with extra scenes read by the author himself. While he did a very good job with the different voices for different characters, I couldn't help but think he would have a much broader reader base if he had just lessened the crude and rude attitude. The novel contains very graphic and disturbing scenes as one of the main characters mutilates his own body in an effort to rid himself of several itching lumps that turn into a growing infestation of alien triangles, an infestation that seems to like the more private parts of a person's anatomy best. As these triangles grow, learn and adapt, the reader discovers more of the nefarious purpose of the infestation.
The concept was good, but I had been expecting a young adult novel, and this was not young adult. I think with a good deal less rough brutality, this story would appeal to a much broader range of readers.

I didn't like this one as well as his other books. It's just as well written, but I didn't like the way it played out. I found the infection (which comes from space) to be disturbing and the way it was dealt with more so. I also found the main character extremely unlikeable (I honestly suspect this was purposeful). It's sitll avaialbe for free in audio format from scottsigler.com.

First, I will start out with "gross". Way more gore than usual. I like contagion kinds of stories...they are exciting and usually adventurous, but that's when the reader actually LIKES the characters. The main character in this story is a sports loving guy that grew up with an overbearing father. He's kind of a horrible person and I wasn't as concerned by his tortuous suffering as I should have been. I know at one point I was hoping he wouldn't make it.
To each their own...but this one was not for me.

I really enjoyed this book and was all set to give it 5 stars right up till the end. It was exciting, well, written and fast paced.....right up till the end. Then it seemed like Mr. Sigler said, " I've got to finish this someway...or maybe not. Why don't I come up with some quick lame ending that will leave it open for sequels?" That is what it felt like to me. I still think it is a good read and would highly recommend it.
