Graphic! Poor Perry was all I could think of. Poor. Poor. Perry. Good pace, a few slow points. But perhaps the next book picks up in those areas as the first book was like Silo, and compiled from flash fiction that got requests for more entries.

I randomly stumbled across the podcast version of this book that's narrated by the author. I stuck around because I was feeling homesick and it was fun to know most of the towns and cities this book is set in. Listening to this was a pretty wild ride, and I think it was all the better because the author himself voiced everything. This isn't the most highbrow or literary book you'll ever read, but it'll suck you in and then sit you down for a wild and unexpected ride. The characters are pretty flat, but the story is so out-there that honestly it doesn't matter. Not sure if I'll continue on in the series, but no regrets about listening to this! It was totally out of my wheelhouse but unexpectedly fun (and disgusting). I will say though: absolutely ENORMOUS CW FOR BODY HORROR. If you're super sensitive to body horror, sit this one out.
Graphic: Body horror
Ok so it's a conflicted 4. It got a 4 for one truly freaky scene involving tweezers and another involving balls. (Don't ask) I had to pause and compose myself to keep reading and it was effective body horror.
I love the concept and the details that went into the infection, but it was almost a 3 brcause I thought most characters soubded quite dumb and wooden.

An incredibly good horror story, it builds up mistery, horror and gore very nicely. However, the end was bad sci-fi badly attached to the rest of the tale, diminishing all the good setting and build.
If I can say nothing else for Scott Sigler, he's an entertaining writer and I'm certain he knows it. Not that I think his work is bad or that I wouldn't recommend it, but not really unique or thought-provoking. His characters are also all basically caricatures, but he's pretty good at predicting what plot points the reader will see as cliche and avoiding them.
Without a doubt, though, he is a terrific narrator. I would immediately recommend him as one of the best audio book readers I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.
And his work is addictive. I'm halfway through the second book in the series already.

Infected, but Scott Sigler, is one of the many books I’ve picked up recently. I’m not sure why, but I always end up buying more books than average during the summer. This book is another one that I read about on John Scalzi’s Whatever blog, in one of the Big Idea posts...

This was one of the grossest books I have ever read. It was also one of the best novels about infection ever.
Sigler's voice is HILARIOUS, and he manages to capture the terror and pain of having an infection inside of you without losing that humor.
Loved the two viewpoints.
Loved everything about this book.
I don't necessarily recommend reading it while eating though.

This is a bad book and it should feel bad about itself.
An example of why: "Med/surg is fancy-pants hospital slang for medical/surgical".
That's right! The abbreviation is fancy-pants! Those medical professionals are just so much better than everyone else, amirite? It is hard to understand what it could possibly mean!
None of the characters are sympathetic in any way at all. They are all either racist, sexist, both racist and sexist, or written as bare caricatures. (If you guessed that all the women in the book - all six total - are the caricatures, you win a prize of zero dollars, congratulations.)
I will give it this: the book gets gross, sometimes. I'm not counting it as a point in its favor, though, because it could've been a much more horrifying kind of gross. Instead, it feels like someone just trying to see what he can get away with, rather than trying to wrestle with the psychological horror that should've been present throughout this whole book.
