a read that made me think more critically about structures of oppression, and how deeply they extend throughout global history. while there were important takeaways and new things i learned, it was majorly repetitive

4.5

Learning from Davis is intoxicating. The expertise she wields with each argument is second to none. Every time I read her theory I am in awe.

so much respect for Angela Davis’ thinking and writing, lots of lines highlighted.

i don’t love the interview/speech format - it didn’t allow any topic the space or depth to be as reflective as i wanted. however i can see the value of reading one at a time, over a longer period of time. it’s clarifying to have the same messages about intersectionality and freedom movements repeated often - just know going in that it’s quite repetitive!! not the best intro to Angela Davis i think, especially if you’re new to these political/philosophical ideas

I listened to the audiobook and I’m certain I only internalized about 25% of what she said. Next I’m going to do an immersive read with both the book and audio. There are so many things I wrote down to look up while listening to this book. Highly recommend. I immediately started How to Be an Antiracist after finishing this.
