I just love Jojo Moyes. I feel like I can't put her books down and I never really know how she is going to wrap things up. Her characters have so many layers and you build up so much empathy that my heart breaks a little as their situations evolve. Trying to take 2020 to go back and read any Jojo Moyes novels I've missed.

I enjoyed this tremendously, but it didn't touch me in the same way that [b:Me Before You|15507958|Me Before You|Jojo Moyes|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1357108762s/15507958.jpg|17763198] did. It's so much fun to discover a new author, so I'll continue working through her backlist.

When I started this novel, I felt out of place; it truly wasn't what I was expecting. The further I read, though, the easier it became to imagine "The Woman You Left Behind," Sophie's red hair, that look of courage and defiance in her eye. Seeing two women, separated by time but so alike between their lost loves and their perseverance, demonstrates the true strength between both characters. Hopefully, upon finishing this, I picked up a little of their strength too.

3.75. This one took me awhile to get into as I wasn't as interested in the "past" as I was in the "present" - probably the opposite of most people, but that's how it was. The last 1/3 of the book flew by though and I ended up enjoying it!

I really enjoyed Sophie's part of the story, but oh my god it was so difficult to get through Liv's part / the trial. I get where she was coming from, but honestly selling the painting is such a simple solution given her financial state. She even says at the end the material things (i.e. the painting) don't matter when it comes down to it!!! I don't know, I just thought it was a little boring and repetitive. I wish I could read more about Sophie!
It was also a little annoying how it completely flipped from Sophie to Liv. I understand that's part of the plot, but it was kind of hard to get used to a completely different writing style and setting within a few pages. Also, I feel like there were so many parts missing in Liv's story (it seemed like she got over David/the painting thing in a few days??).
Bottom line: LOVED Sophie's part, Liv bored/annoyed me (sorry), and I feel like there was a lack of plot (I guess the trial + Liv and Paul's relationship didn't cut it for me).
I don't regret reading the book, I just wasn't a huge fan. 2.5 stars probably
