Max Logan is a well-known hockey player in the league. He is an excellent player but now has a stained reputation due to a fight with a fellow player, and nobody knows the reason behind it.
Rory Ashford is the daughter of the owner of a hockey league in Vancouver. Despite not wanting to, she has agreed to work with him for one year after finishing college. Having grown up surrounded by hockey, she is well-versed in the sport.
The first time they meet is on a plane to Vancouver that crash-lands. They share a cozy night at a hotel while waiting for the next flight out. Later, Rory joins her dad to meet the hockey players, hoping to make the team. To her surprise, Rory discovers that Max is one of the players, and Max is shocked to find out that she will now be his boss.
What follows is pure drama.
-The staff members are engaging in suspicious activities.
-Rory attempts to assist Max in improving his image, unaware that the head coach is setting him up to fail.
-Rory is singled out by the head coach for specific reasons that we find out later
-Max and Rory need to maintain their distance, but it becomes increasingly difficult to do so.
-Rory eventually finds out the reason for the fight that made hockey players and fans hate him, and there was an excellent reason for the fight, in my opinion
-We find out that off-page sexual assaults play a part in decisions, though nobody wants to talk about the assaults
I wasn't sure what the most essential part of the book was that the reader should focus on. Is it the corrupt coach who manipulates another staff member to create trouble? Or is it the slow-building romance between the coach's daughter and one of the players? Perhaps it is the consequence of hiding sexual assaults.
I wish one of the three different storylines had been focused on more than the others.

I went into this book blind. I really only picked it up because it was readily available on Libby and I wanted to read something to give my brain a break. I ended up enjoying it more than expected. I was invested in the two MC lives. I think I'll give the other books in the series a try too. Lol

loved the book & the fact that it’s contemporary, mostly romance forward plot but engaging, tense, and has some twists and turns.

YeH not sure how this got 4 stars. I could barely make it passed the third chapter. Feels like a poorly written fan fiction in Wattpad. DNF @ 9%
