Whatever faults the book had with its writing structure near the end, the main characters more than made up for it in my opinion.

I liked this one, it's very cute
I think it's got a cookie cutter fantasy plot so this book isn't reinventing the wheel or anything but the writing style and characters were very fun
Tha audiobook narrator is also amazing, I'd listen to anything this woman narrates

This retelling of Swan Lake was beautiful! I have been so excited and have been anticipating this book for so so long. The second my edition of A Treachery Of Swans arrived I immediately started reading.

The writing, to started with, was so atmospheric. I could really visualise each character and setting so vividly. The world building made the plot and characters even stronger whilst reading. I love the use of the magic system too and the concept of how the sorcerers used their magic. Even though the reveal of the twist at the end plot was a bit predictable, it still made for a very enjoyable read.

Also, the exploration into the toxic harmful relationship of Odile and Regnault was well constructed. The slow but very obvious patterns and signs into Regnault grooming Odile into depending on him whilst he used her was extremely clear. The progression of Odile realising and escaping his abusive ways was very realistic written. She was so conflicted due to the years of manipulation and gas lighting that she was afraid to be wrong and lose the only person she thought loved her. But when she finally saw that Regnault was the one who isolated her and took the real ones she loved away, that's when she became free of him. Their relationship also mirrored Marie's and her mum's relationship too.

I loved Marie and Odile too. The writing in this book was Odile was fawning over Marie was so stunning. The simple but poetic was she described her beauty and kindness was so so beautiful. I wish I tabbed my way through the book to give an example. I also wished they could have spent more time one and one within the story. However, I understand that had there been more scenes it would have interrupted the plot and would have made the story drag a bit.

Overall, I really really enjoyed this book. If you could not tell already by my ranting review. I'll definitely have to read more of A.B Poranek's books, especially if they are just as Sapphic as this one.
