I absolutely adored this series. While I do think the first book was better paced and had a tighter story I just love the characters in this series. While it does get bogged down with some silly teenage drama (it's YA so it's to be expected) the banter and connections between characters is so good, it just makes the series such a joy to read. Would 100% recommend this book for anyone who enjoyed the first one even if it's a bit of a departure.

This was a little slow and i felt like it was longer than it truly needed to be. It came to a nice conclusion leaving off from the first book and i really liked the way it ended.
I’m really glad it had a happy ending and had alot more action and fantasy than the first book but i would still label it a “romantasy”.

3.75 rounded up. It was perfectly fine! There were moments I loved, especially the beginning chapters and the epic battle at the end, but overall, it just wasn't "for me" in the same way This Vicious Grace was specifically for me. I still love these characters with my whole heart, and I look forward to reading whatever comes next from Emily!

I really struggle with 2nd books. I think its because the main characters are usually already in love at this point and the author usually throws some kind of angst and "I'm not good enough" to keep the romance interesting but I like the falling in love part. So.. was this a good book? Yes. was it my favorite? No.
I thought parts of it were a little confusing, and the relationship problems were a little ridiculous at times but the story line was good. The ending was emotional and worth the read if nothing else. I just loved the flirty "will-they-won't-they" banter between Dante and Alessa in the first book and it fell a little flat for me in this one.
I am glad I read it, I still did enjoy the story. It just fell into a bit of a second book slump for me after how much I loved the first one.
I do want to say that the LGBTQ parts of this book were done really well. Some books try a little too hard to make it obvious.. Like LOOK WE HAVE GAY CHARACTORS! when this one felt seamless and natural. In the world she created sexuality was very fluid and it was talked about as though it was not a big deal and just normal which I wish more books did.
Spice - 2/5
Romance - 2/5
Plot & Charactors - 4/5
