This book had classic 2nd book syndrome. Truthfully, read the beginning, skim the parts about Claire and Jamie in the 1700s, then start reading again once you get to the lead up to Claire getting back to current times.

Also, while I can appreciate that Claire has medical knowledge, the fact that every human's pulse was commented on or noticed got old very quickly. Jamie is very much alive or so I gathered by how often Claire noticed his pulse in his neck. Ugh.

BUT THAT CLIFF HANGAR THOUGH!!! UGGGGHHH, now I'm going to have to read the 3rd book.

Book two in the series was great. Already reading #3.

Re-read in 2014 - just as good as the first time.

Primarily, starting off a book so as a reader you know there will be much heartbreak is the worst. The story was amazing, but the entire time I was anticipating the future aching in my heart.

Second reading: There were a bunch of errors that really annoyed me at the beginning, but it got better. I actually enjoyed this book much more the second time, whether is was simply being more familiar with the material or because I like the TV show so much. I'm actually going to continue on with the series this time!

First reading: It was ok. I gave up being annoyed at all the little errors because they were just going to drive me crazy. I was not a big fan of how/when the book started, it was very jarring, coming off of the first one. Claire still annoyed me at points throughout the book, though maybe not quite as much as in the first one. I think it should have been two books, it was so long and there was a clear break between the sections in France and Scotland. I am very undecided about whether to continue with the series, so I probably won't. I am curious what kind of shenanigans are pulled to get them back together, because obviously that happens, but there are so many other books that I want to read.

I am rereading all of these books in anticipation of the TV series. These are such fun books to read. I am going to take a small break before tackling the third book in the series.

Don’t get me wrong, there are fantastic moments and powerful lines in this book. But this same story could have been told much more briefly. I enjoy the concept and storyline, and long books don’t bother me if they’re meaningful. This one just becomes a slog partway through and picks up again at the end.

It’s been a while since I have posted about the Outlander series, but honestly, these books never get old. If you remember when I wrote my Outlander review, I was rereading the books because of season 5. Although season 5 is over, there is still much we can discuss about Dragonfly in Amber and season 2.
