The book delt with very heavy topics, that at times made me feel very uncomfortable and unwell. But this is what a thriller should do. I found the relationships of the main 3 women very intriguing and creepy , however sometimes relatable. I liked that teenage girls were the main focus and how cruel this age can be. Sometimes the book felt slow and a bit dragging.

My favorite book out of "Gone Girl", "Dark Places", and this one.

The only thing I disliked were the few errors I found (I hate finding errors in books; they disappoint me so much!) and the fact that the author makes up a complete lie at the end of the book. I hated it because it's such an easy lie to fix but she didn't fix it because she assumed her readers would take her word for it.

All in all, I liked this story the best out of the three books I mentioned in the beginning.

« and I looked down from above like a spiteful little god, the back of my hand placed against my face, imagining how it felt to be cheek to cheek with my mother. »

intensely off-putting and gritty. Gillian Flynn is a master of her craft.

Could. Not. Put. Down.

This book is seductively disturbing. I first read Gillian Flynn's "Gone Girl" and loved it, but her debut novel blew me away. I finished this morning and have not been able to stop thinking about it, hours later. This is the kind of story (with the type of characters) that stays with you for a long time afterwards.
