Definitely the weakest in the trilogy. Don't get me started on the ending.
If you like your sci fi on the dark gothic side with a helping of bilge pumps, walking cathedrals and religious fanatics, this is for you.

Absolution Gap was a well written addition to the Revelation Space series, but I can't help but think it was a little off-topic. The book consists of three story lines told in parallel, one featuring our hero Clavain, another following an ultra who discovers a physical phenomenon and turns it into a strange religious cult world, and the third featuring a girl on that planet who joins the two plots together. The sad part is that the "religious cult world" is deeply disturbing, but ultimately feels somewhat unimportant in the grand scheme of things, and the amount of effort the characters spend on humoring its fanatics seems astronomical and unnecessary.
Still, the events at the novel's climax are well worth the read.

4.5 stars. Alastair Reynolds is quickly becoming a favorite author. The premises that Reynolds comes up with are so good.

4 for the story (lost me a bit in the middle,) 5 for the hyperpig, Scorpio. Made a seemingly out of place character quite real for me. Looking forward to finishing off the final story in Galactic North now (I'm reading the books and stories in chronological rather than publication order.)
