This is such a cute book! I breezed right through it and Christopher is a delightful character. I thought the author really put us in the mind of a 15 year old with Aspergers. It was refreshing and It was nice to see his growth as a person and his perspective just shows the normal flow of life with a different viewpoint. Everything is temporary and I think even Christopher starts to realize that.

The thing I like more than anything else (and there is lots to like) is taking a ride inside Christopher’s head. What a joy

Read for my English class. This is probably one of my favorite books that I've read in school because for once it isn't about 'average' people and written in a unique way, as the main character has Asperger's. I really enjoyed the message of this book and seeing Christopher grow and face his fears. Even though the writing made me feel disconnected because of the lack of emotions (he doesn't understand some feelings and the book is very direct without descriptions), I think the perspective was refreshing. This isn't a book I would've picked up in my free time but it was an okay read and something different.

Read this for school a few years ago, along with a booklet about autism that the teacher seemed to have gotten somewhere from the 1980s or something. I really wish I had been diagnosed earlier because I would have ripped it apart right in front of her :)

Either way, when the author themselves admits to not having done any research on the condition he's writing about, and he doesn't even name the condition in the book because HE KNOWS HE'S DOING IT WRONG, maybe you shouldn't be using it in schools.

This feels like those characters in sitcoms that are obviously autistic but it's never stated because than people can legally laugh at the autism, except in this case its for the sake of shock and sympathyporn in stead of for humor.

Anyway, can we all just stop treating disabled people like weird zoo animals whos families need to be pitied that would be great.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I thought the autism was represented well, and it seemed well-researched. This book had a very slow start and I didn't care for the characters much. Both the parents were awful, and Christopher truly deserved better. I liked the ending, as the book picked up the pace for the last few pages.

2.5/5, rounded up.

I found myself smiling or chuckling pretty often as I listened to this book. The narrator did a great job and the writing really helped me get a first-person perspective on what it must be like to be on the Autism Spectrum (called Asperger’s Syndrome back then). I think Mark Haddon wrote this with a very compassionate lens and there are so many people who should read this story. Really well done overall, with a sweet ending. Definitely recommend!
