What I liked: I absolutely love Christina C Jones writing, particularly her dialogue. I also loved that Justin and his ex-wife were both very happy and they modeled healthy co-parenting
This book is mainly a miscommunication between two people so it was kind of a frustrating read. Both MCs just didn’t know how to talk to each other. Hopefully they actually make this HEA work out. Im not so sure!
I also didn’t like that two books in a row were focused on pregnancy/infertility related issues. Like, I just don’t want to read that personally!

(I can’t wait until I’m like 60 and hopefully these reviews will still be floating in the ether somewhere and I can remember how STUPID that Damn Daniel video was lol)
I think this is the last book because there are no more brothers :(. Why couldn’t big Joe have more sons!!! I’m so sad right now because I love these books so much.
Bending the Rules follows the last Wright brother Justin. Middle child, NYT Bestselling Author and sexy piece of chocolate. Yes that is a part of his official title. Justin fucked up with his Best Friend Toni. Enough that she picked up and left their hometown to start her now very successful and blooming Publishing Company, Scattered Seeds and never looked back.... for seven years. Going from being Justins best friend for 20 years to complete static and lack of communication. But she’s back now, helping her parents with their bookstore and Justin with a signing for his final book with his current Publisher and of course grievances are revisited, hurt feelings revealed and new feelings explored?
A story like this should be a HOT MESS! Everyone knows that relations between friends is a BAD idea but Christina C Jones man...I don’t know where she learned how to finesse these stories to make them just WORK...but she’s an expert at it. I found myself rooting for Toni and Justin to settle their BS and just GO FOR IT! I was cheering for them instead of cringing at what is usually a very awkward and annoying situation. Just like the previous two books, I just LOVED it.
Toni is independent, smart, successful, sexy and headstrong. Justin is independent, smart, successful, sexy, a great father and stubborn. He and Toni are SO much alike, it would make one think that they would be on a similar page, the same radio station, a congruent wavelength. You get what I’m trying to say! But because they are so much alike...the miscommunication and missed signals were REAL. Sending these two on the most tension filled journey to figuring out what they wanted that I have ever read. But it was soooo good.
I love that Christina always writes these characters that just exude Black Excellence but they always have a tablespoon of swag thrown in the mix. I know as women we always preach about how we want our men to be civilized and there is no reason to fight over us or treat us like we’re ‘theirs’ to appease their possessiveness. But there is just something about a man claiming his territory and knowing without a shadow of a doubt that if it came down to it he would be able to back it up. All I’m going to say is Justin and Russel in the doorway of Toni’s hotel. THAT SCENE! LOVED IT!
I just...I need MORE! Christinaaaaaaaaaa. Write longer books I BEG OF YOU!!!
Recommendation: Cmon...do I even need to say it? Well I will anyway. READ THIS TRILOGY. Read EVERYTHING by Christina C Jones. Especially if you’re like me, a young black woman looking for books with young black love. Above all that though, they’re just GOOD books regardless of race. So if you love a nice love story with fun and funny characters, you will LOVE these books.
