I am not a big romance reader and usually won't even pick one up but I had read and enjoyed Ms. James other book, Dracula, My Love: The Secret Journals of Mina Harker so I agreed to give this a read. I have to say, not many books read like a play or movie but this one does. When I say that I mean that as you read each chapter you can very easily visualize the scenes playing out like watching a movie or a play. They come to life that much.

I liked Michael from the first time he showed up on the snowy road, tired and not wanting to help Nicole who was stranded. But we knew he would and he did. Michael is in a word, amazing!
The book in many ways reminded me of the fairy tales that I used to read my daughter. Michael was certainly no ogre or beast but it was that element of imperfection that drew me to him. I don't want to use any spoilers so you will just have to trust me and read the book!

We get to know Michael and Nicole very well since other than wild animals there are the only characters in the book. I can't say that Nicole is someone that I would want to be friends with but I enjoyed watching things between her and Michael play out. The ending while not a cliff-hanger certainly in my opinion left room for another book.

If you like a nice story with a paranormal twist and a little mystery thrown in, give this book a read. Nice for a take along read or just to escape for a weekend.

Nicole Whitcomb was attending a ski themed wedding up in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She decided to stay one extra day to hit the slopes, one last time. The radio reports that there is a huge storm approaching but Nicole should be at the airport before it is near her. Nicole is driving, when she hears a loud crack like the earth splitting and than a bunch of snow comes tumbling down the hill at Nicole. She runs off the road.

Michael Tyler is a hermit He was outside when he heard a car and than the avalanche. Michael lives out in the middle of no where, so unless he rescues whoever would be crazy enough to be out in this weather than it will be a long time before help arrives. Michael takes Nicole back to his cabin.

Nicole awakens to find herself stuck with a mysterious stranger. The roads are closed for several days. That would not be so bad if Michael did not have a secret that could kill her.

To be honest I had no idea that this book was a vampire novel. Not that I am complaining as I still would have read this one but I was expecting it to be more of a mystery type story. I enjoyed this book. Nicole and Michael were good together. For a story that takes about forbidden love, the romance was mild. Though, as I was reading this book, I could not keep from comparing Nicole and Michael to Belle and Beast from Beauty and the Beast. This is the type of love and relationship that best describes what Nicole and Michael shared. At times the story seemed to move in slow motion and I wanted it to speed up. I mean, there is only so much you can do and talk about when there are just two people in a cabin in the middle of nowhere and the one person keeps avoiding the other person. The ending was the best. I like that it was not the typical ending that you would come to expect from a vampire story. Nocturne is a book that you will want to read curled up in a blanket sitting by the fire.

I had such high expectations. (keywords: vampire, romance) I mean I even bought the book and all but really, having characters speak a dew times and bam, instand soulmate formula just turns me off a book.
And the noble self sacrificing hero? -_-
It gets redundant after a while.

I wasn't impressed. The ending hinted at another book involving these characters. I don't think I'd read it. Which makes me sad, because I've enjoyed other works by Syrie James.

This book was sitting on the Teen Fiction shelves at my local bookstore. I picked it up because I was drawn to two words that were on blurb of the book: FORBIDDEN LOVE. What can I say? I’m a total sucker for this type of romances, no matter how much of a cheese-fest the book turned out to be.

Thankfully, Nocturne, didn’t turn out to be a big ball of cheese. In fact, this is probably one of my favorite romance reads of the year. I found out much later that this book didn’t belong in Teen Fiction section; I think it was placed there by mistake. First of all, the characters were adults; and second of all there were explicit sex…well, explicit by my standards.

After attending a friend’s wedding, Nicole drove through a snow storm en route to the airport. Unfortunately for her, the rental she was driving skidded off a mountain road that ended up buried in a ditch. She was saved by an enigmatic recluse, Michael Tyler, whose distaste for company was as obvious as his masculine beauty. Forced to suffer each other’s companionship, Nicole and Michael fought their attractions with one another, (futile though as it may be) and discovered each other’s past. They found love along the way but had to face the brutal fact that the two of them together was pretty much an impossible reality.

I rarely pick up adult fiction on my bookstore jaunts. I think it was by divine intervention that I found this book.

I absolutely loved it!

The snowstorm created a more eerie, mysterious backdrop to this sensual vampire tale. The characters were well drawn that captivated me from page one to the last. Their conversations were very intelligent and every scene screamed sexual tension. Michael’s inner struggles to fight off his true nature were as palpable as Nicole’s constant need to discover more about her very private host.

It’s got an amazing plot that didn’t drag nor was it told at a break-neck speed. Each layer of Michael’s identity was revealed in such a way that made me feel like rushing on to the next page.
Although this book didn’t end the way I would have liked it to end, I still don’t feel a single regret for gushing about this absolutely heartrending novel.

Syrie James’ writing is exquisite as is her talent for taking her readers to historic voyages. The lady knows a thing or two about history, that’s for sure. I’ve only read one of her works in the past, The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen, which, I’ve enjoyed very much. And after reading Nocturne, I think I’m going to check out her other works as well.

Good story, just not so sure how I feel about the ending. I thought there must have been a chapter missing.
