It Waits in the Woods by Josh Malerman (the third story in the Creature Feature collection) is about Brenda, a young woman seeking answers in the dense Michigan woods three years after the disappearance of her younger sister in those same woods. Desperate for answers, she begins investigating a local legend involving haunting wails from deep in the woods and a bridge to nowhere with evil lurking on the other side.
This one is terrifying, you guys. Maybe it's just because I listened to the audio version (highly recommend, the narrator (Lauren Ezzo) really popped off, it's so good), but the creature in this one was so scary. The beginning is just a touch slow, but the moment Brenda sets foot in the woods the tension is high. Truly nauseating in the best way.

“Do you have my face?”
I have never heard of this author before the Creature Feature series and apparently is well known for “Bird Box”.
The main point of this short story is on Brenda, whose sister Amanda went missing in the Ucatanani National Forest years ago. Partially blamed by her family for this disappearance due to her negligence, Brenda sets out into the woods alone to bring her home even in the face of an idea that no one is willing to entertain: the Opso, a creature who wanders these woods in search of a face to claim as its own.
I did enjoy this quick read it took a while for me to get into but the low rating for me is due to the audiobook as when the person reading the books does the part of the Opso just made me want to fast forward it. Besides that it was well written but ended too soon once it got exciting. Would enjoy a full book of this story!
