Very interesting and thought provoking. I really wanted to dive into these subjects and reactions. It was a bit scary too, I saw some of myself in these examples. I have issues, as we all do but a couple of these hit the mark and I had that AHA moment. I would really love a more in depth look into this theory. Fantastic audiobook, well read easy to follow

This took me a while to finish because of the research heavy section. Once i was in a more focused mindset it was actually very enlightening and I learned a lot about how important it is to reframe questions we ask ourselves and others. "What happened to you?" usually explains why someone is acting the way that they are and that does not define who you are as a person forever but rather what you might need to look into healing.

3.75 stars! The authors lost 1/100th of a point every time that they brought up the title of the book.
A good read and one I might recommend to clients, but there are too many good trauma books out there!
Best parts of the book for me:
We must look at the acorn not the oak
What kept you alive in Korea is killing you back home
Rhythm to help with regulation
We illicit into the world what we project into the world
Russell brand - stop using and problems still there - stage 2 recovery
Relationships and connectedness are the key
Practicing piano and practicing being loved
Palm Springs and Cheerios - it’s the Cheerios we remember
Flock freeze fight flight
Trauma - event experience effects SAMSHA
Oprah has never been to therapy?
Romanian orphanages
The value of consistent caregivers (6 months of multiple languages)
Cutting reading and dissociation
You teach people how to treat you
You don’t erase the roads - you just build new ones (on neural networks of health being developed)
Malleable not resilient
Moderate challenges
All developmental successes follow failure
Difference is danger
You can’t give what you never received
People are most vulnerable in the 6 months following a transition
Regulate relate and reason
Stage and state dependence
Until you Heal the wounds of the past, you will continue to bleed
Forgiveness is giving up the hope that the past could have been any different
