Only gets 2 stars this time for being obvious, depressing and incomplete. Unlike the others in the series so far there is no resolution this time around as we are left with the big shown down with evil sorcerer Samir - the subject of the story - unresolved.

REREAD 2019
I'm rereading the whole series in preparation for my first time reading [b:Magic to the Bone|29558243|Magic to the Bone (The Twenty-Sided Sorceress, #7)|Annie Bellet|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1458469174l/29558243._SY75_.jpg|49434964]

Unfortunatly, I found this book rather boring on my second listen. Yes, that last scene is intense and interesting, but the rest of it? Not really.
I think it is because there isn't really a plot here, compared to the earlier books. Jade is just running around trying to stave of one thing after another, all of them seeming... I don't know... unneccesary? Sure, I understand the whole ''Samir is playing with her'' thing, but as a book, it isn't all that interesting.

Also, am I the only one, or did Jade change over night? Sure, she's always been a bit of a back-talker and cursing to seem tough, but the whole Dick and Balls thing actually felt out of character for me. The reason I'm thinking so now may be because of what I mentioned in my original review of [b:Hunting Season|23303229|Hunting Season (The Twenty-Sided Sorceress, #4)|Annie Bellet|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1421533780l/23303229._SY75_.jpg|42858570], everything is starting to feel a little more like Jane Yellowrock from [b:Skinwalker|5585788|Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, #1)|Faith Hunter|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1400516601l/5585788._SY75_.jpg|5757031], but it may also just be me seening things where there aren't any.

That said, time to read on to next one!

New rating: 3/5 stars

Nope, this is not ok, just so you know!
I did not like the cliffhanger, and the fact that I have no idea when the next book will be out as an audio.

Other than that, I have some mixed feelings.
I love this world Bellet has created. I love the characters and how she build the story. I enjoy her writing and like the narrator of the audios.

But, I'm starting to see a lot of resemblance to Faith Hunter's series about Jane Yellowrock.
I won't say exactly what it is, but there are a lot of things that seem inspired from the longer series in this book, which I found kind of sad.

If I hadn't read the Yellowrock-series, though, I wouldn't have given it any thought and I would have loved it - in a sad kind of way, 'cause it is sad, but I'd have liked it.

Still looking forward to reading the rest of this series, though!

Boss battle and at the same time an exercise in heartache. I was enthralled, hurting and hating Samir more and more as time goes on. The changes and the pain really suck you into this one making you want to read the next one even sooner. Still geek tasting but sadly taking a sideline here.

This series has been a lot of fun in general but book five cranked it up to amazing. I can't wait to read what happens next.

Though I really do like the story this particular book/novella left off with as if it was in the middle of the book. There wasn't even a full story arch to it like there had been with the others. As much as I had looked forward to the installment it left me wishing I had just waited to read it when the next one came out. There was also a lack of proofreading that needed done but got neglected.
Overall it is a good story. For those who are looking to read it, my recommendation is to wait for the next one to come out first. That way it would be less of a drop off and wait with it.

The series changes tack and starts cliff-hangering the endings. Plot is weaker, but badinage is slightly funnier than previous books.

I'm really enjoying the series, though this one felt more like a way-station than a full book on its own.

The confrontation. The end was a cliff hanger and I'm going against my tendency to give cliff hangers a one star rating. I'm not happy about it, though, particularly since this is the first one in the series and that's a foul tactic.
