I was surprised by this book. It wasn't what I expected when I checked it out which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. I didn't like the ending though. I really liked how it touched on sexism that young girls face right before puberty. We are given these "social norms" of what women and men are like, what is acceptable and what isn't, when for the most part it's just a bunch of bullshit. My main problem was you didn't exactly see one of the main characters grow out of her perception of slut shaming. I think this really needs a sequel to watch the two girls grow more and change their views because I feel like a lot wasn't covered.

Quick one hour read. Enjoyed the illustrative style and got transported to that strange feeling of adolescent summer, being in between a lot of different places.

The tamaki's evoke such intense nostalgia with all thier books, I can truly feel and smell and re-live all the moments and places in my youth. I find the story structure a bit short however and often feel like the plot gets almost to where it need to go but not quite. This book also surprisingly had a lot of parental topics in it which I like as a parent but was unexpected and I don't really know who the audience is - adults? Young adults? Tweens like the character?
