This book has so much research built into the story that it makes you really appreciate the author. I really enjoyed it.

Like Harry Potter but the bad guys and the colonized world are very real. Loved the magical feel and deep dive into language. Loved the friendship the four main characters got to build at a magical school. Loved robin’s arc. So well done. Insane how many societal issues in the 1830s still ring true today. Knocking half a Star off because at times it felt too long and tedious (sooo many footnotes?) and I wanted just a little more from the ending. Just a little glimpse of violette a few years in the future.
