so this was a reread, the last time i read this book i was in middle school and at the time i thought it was PEAK literature, a 6/5 star book, one of my comfort books, and it kicked off my obsession with the shadowhunter world. that being said, i still really really enjoyed listening to the book again, it was just as captivating and the writing was still pretty good in my opinion and thankfully wasn’t a case of middle school me have low expectations.
i really enjoyed the fact that the end of the book fixed the whole pitting isabelle and clary against each other, and i forgot how high school the unrequited love thing between clary and simon was, but again, im glad that they get over that pretty quickly in the book. rereading this basically solidified my stance that this is one of my favorite books, save for the whole clary and jace being brother and sister (even though they actually aren’t. i really don’t like that part, but because i was in middle school when i read the whole series i didn’t care so now that i know that they aren’t in kinda indifferent about it.
i just love the characterization and the world that is built in this book omg!!!

I love the series, it' s one of my favourites, but the first book isn't the best, but it's a great start. Also, i hated some characters, but i love them now, 6 books later.

I normally love young adult books, but I couldn't even finish half of this one. I listened to it on CD and I'm not sure if it was how the reader was speaking or how the book was written, but it felt so juvenile. Yes I know the main character is 15, but it doesn't mean the whole book has to feel like that. The authors use of adjectives was also too much. It got to the point where I just couldn't listen anymore.

Wasn't into it from the beginning but actually ended up loving it! Definitely after the halfway point or something I just couldn't stop and it started turning into an extremely swift read! With interesting and less interesting plot twists! (I've read a similar plottwist before, so I don't buy that it's true but who knows)

I honestly feel like I was able to get through this book because I’d previously read Storm and Fury literally right before it. If it had not been for my curiosity of reading about the same things but from a different perspective, I probably would have DNF.
