4.5 stars... this was actually pretty darn good, which says a lot, considering I’m a huge (and picky) football fan.

I love the audiobook narrated by Teddy Hamilton & Maxine Mitchell, they really made this story came to life! I liked the story a lot and would continue this series later. Nothing much to say other than dang this book was hot, and I just love Drew Barrymore! I'd definitely reread it when i got my hands on the the soon to be re-released book this year.

My only complain is the misogyny and slut-shaming that went on in this book. But i guess that's the downside for any older NA college/sports romances 🫠

The Hook Up does start with some serious instalove between Drew and Anna, which slightly threw me off continuing the book because falling in love that quickly is not realistic but I'm glad I continued on. Anna's a badass bitch: A fiery red head with serious quick wit and an attitude that leaves Drew speechless on many occasions. Together Drew and Anna don't essentially look or sound like they'd make a good couple but in the end you really get a deeper look into their relationship when Drew goes through some serious stuff.

3.5/5 really enjoyed this book. been in the mood to read some "fmc only wants sex while mmc wants to be in the relationship" trope, this book has done it so well
i can relate to anna a lot. her anxiety of the physical image and being the invisible one during middle school and high school and her fear of not knowing what to trust

not me actually rating an insta-lust book this high

this book was such a treat.

LOVED LOVED LOVED it.

idk why on earth i've had this book on hold for 2+ years, but this book gave me the same feels as the off campus series (which is why i wish i read this back when i was on my college sports romance shit)

insta-lust only works if you're reading a smutty ass book by [a:Alexa Riley|8296969|Alexa Riley|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1443032285p2/8296969.jpg] or [a:Jessa Kane|15093699|Jessa Kane|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1594630638p2/15093699.jpg], but in other books? give me a slow burn any day. but for some reason, i just didn't care that drew and anna fell in love/lust at first sight.

why? because it was lowkey believable.

they both just sat next to each other, had that moment of eye contact and BOOM sparks fucking flew. it's a thing, people. this is exactly how i felt when i saw damon salvatore for the first time. and thor. captain america. four from divergent. henry muthafucking cavill as geralt.

i freaking loved drew who was just the total opposite of a dumb jock stereotype. drew was an orphan, who worked hard at school and football but was getting bored of the empty partying lifestyle.

then we have anna who is intelligent and hardworking but didn't have a clue what she wanted to do with her life and was commitment-phobic due to past trauma from bullying and body shaming in high school. she was stuck in that 'i'm still chubby' mindset which caused her to not want to commit to drew who she saw as the perfect specimen, with a bright future filled with fame and scrutiny.

i loved how they fell quickly in their hearts but we still got to see character progression and growth. the way the two bantered and bounced off each other, the way they didn't just always have sex but also talk about their insecurities, fears, pasts and just being happy in each other's companies. i liked how we got to actually see them fight and work through their issues, i loved how open drew was and always made the first moves but also knew anna's boundaries.

yes, anna took her damn time to accept drew but call me a masochistic bitch because i live for angst like that lmao and I enjoyed the slow-ness/build-up of that.

the only reason it's not a full 5 stars is that there were a lot of sex scenes. i wish we got a date scene or something, but they really were fuck buddies so we should be happy they even left the bedroom lol.

i also wasn't a fan of anna's best friend iris in this book. she was just so unsupportive towards anna and just kept taking her cheating ass boyfriend back? i was expecting a book with her as the heroine but looking at the series she isn't in any so no redemption arc for her. i much preferred drew's bestie gray anyway. his man-whoreing ways grew on me and i cannot wait to read his book next.

I started reading this book in the middle of the night. I woke up at like 2AM and just decided to read this book on my ipad/kindle app. I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN! I finished it at like 10AM after reading it for four hours total. It was just such an in-depth story. I wasn't sure what the conflict was going to be. I really loved the characters. This felt real. It felt very legit. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a good love story. I love it when the guy tells his side of the story and he's totally smitten from the get go by the girl. I just loved this story. This might be a re-read. :-)
