I feel as if the book consumed me instead of the proper way around. It slurped my brain up, chewed vigorously, and spat it out all awhirl. All I know for sure is that I loved Augustine and his house of tragedies.

I liked this book and I think the first half was a 4 star for me but the last section felt like a drug fueled sleep deprived fever dream (seemingly intentionally so). it dragged so much that it lowered my enjoyment of the book
DNF’d at 65%, I wanted Halloween spooky, but despite having all the right tropes, this was going no where- and then just went off the rails. I liked the narrator, unreliable and all, but despite a promising premise, this did not deliver for me. Thank you for the ARC!

I was SO ready to love this book! Swoony romance, gothic setting, magic and science! Give it to me now!
The first 2/3 of the book was absolutely my jam. Loved the characters, loved watching the mysteries unravel and the tortured souls reveal themselves.
But that last 1/3? I honestly just could not follow what was happening. Things got way to abstract for me to picture the happenings in my mind and from that point on, I had no idea what was going on.
Left me feeling bummed by a book that up till then had been good gothic fun.

Sick to my stomach I loved every moment!! The magic system was more conceptual than rules based and the final conclusion felt quite confusing, but I got the vibes. LOVED the gothic medical horror and I really enjoyed the relationship between Jane and Augustine and all its complexities. Also the cover design? Stunning.
