Couldn't put this one down at all. One of my most favourite mystery/thrillers I've read in a long time.

3.5 stars. Read this book, because I wanted to watch the series on Netflix but felt like I should read the book first. I enjoyed the mystery of the story, but just didn’t have me on the edge of my seat wanting to know more. Excited to see how the tv series compares to the book.

I've long since had a few Coben books on my shelf, but for some reason I never got around to any of them, so that this one marks my first actual read of one of his books.
It was quite masterful how the author purposefully led the reader into one direction and then twisted the story around onto a totally different path – classic bait-and-switch, with red herrings aplenty that left me baffled. I also liked his character development: Maya was flawed and seemed coldly detached from the start, possibly explained by her struggle with PTSD - and yet she displayed a ton of zeal to find answers amidst a cluster of lies and deceit from forces unseen. However, the side characters were cliched to the max...
The author clearly knew how to construct a page-turning jigsaw puzzle that left my hair standing on end in several places, not to mention that WTF ending I never would've guessed. No idea if this was up to par with what he usually delivers, but I was riveted from the first page to the last.

I picked up this book at a charity shop about a year ago, and had it on my TBR for quite a while.

I found the first half quite slow but after a friend raved about the new Netflix show I decided to pick it up again and finished the rest in 2 days.

“Telling someone who was clinically depressed…to shake it off and get out of the house was tantamount to telling a man with two broken legs to sprint across the room.
I liked two of the main characters quite a lot—Maya and Shane, but not my favorite Coben. I'm stealing Shane's word: "bullshittery"—such a great word!
~ Shane couldn’t handle small talk or the excess bullshittery of modern society.

I sat down planning to read a bit of this today then to my to-do list. Next thing I knew, I was 75% done and couldn't stop there. Great page turner, nice surprises along the way, a few overdone cliches, but all in all, good thriller. Kind of surprised it's taken me this long to read anything by Coben.

It took me a little while to get into this. I haven't been super impressed with the last few of Coben's books compared to his earlier ones, but this one did turn around for me. I really loved the military angle, and I wasn't expecting the ending. That was the best part for me.

Not my usually genre but I liked it a lot. The story moved along quickly and didn't drag at all and had me still guessing all the way until the end. There was a bit of swearing, but nothing crazy.
adventurous dark mysterious tense fast-paced

3.5 stars I’ll round up.
