Next installment of the Rose Harbor series, got it in hardback form from my library. Just as good as all of her books always are! Ready for the next one, hate to have to wait a year :(
I am enjoying this series and to be honest I only started it to get to the 4th book in the series because of the Reading Challenge I am doing this year. However, I have thoroughly enjoyed this series so far as having never read any other books by this author. I have seen some reviews that say some of the characters, mainly guests at the Inn, are somewhat annoying, or one dimensional, predictable, or with low self-esteem, but I find them to be endearing. So far this series is lighthearted, despite some of the depressing plots of some of the characters. This is an easy, sweet, quick read, that you will laugh, cry, say ah-ha!, and end on a good note. My favorite scenes are banter between Jo Marie and Mark Taylor. Sometimes it is almost like a little boy pushing the girl down on the playground, but you are secretly rooting for them. I will be starting the 3rd of the 5 books tonight and I cant wait to see how all of the characters end! I would highly suggest this series and author if you are looking for a story told from multiple viewpoints, relatable plots, and a heartwarming story!
Geen literatuur met grote L, maar wel exact het soort boek dat ik nu en dan eens nodig heb.
I received this book free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I did not receive any form of compensation in return.
First, I would like to say that I have been a HUGE Debbie Macomber fan for many, many years. If I remember correctly, one of the first books I had read by her was one in where the main character’s aunts sent her on a trip to Alaska to be a mail order bride. Of course, she had no idea that was the reason they sent her on the trip.
Any fan of Debbie Macomber knows all about her Cedar Cove series. Well, the Rose Harbor series is a spin off from Cedar Cove. It has many of the characters that we have come to know and love and a whole new cast of characters.
Like any of Debbie’s books, I could not put this one down. It was so awesome catching up with some of the friends from Cedar Cove (even if it was only quick glimpses at them). I absolutely love the new inn that is being featured. I can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book. Hopefully we will learn more about Mark and his past. He is a major mystery at this point.
Of course, there were moments when the tears would not stop as I read this book. Mary’s story touched my heart the most. And I was definitely caught off guard that there was a second reason that she came to stay at the Inn.
For those that love Debbie’s books, you need to make sure to catch the TV series based off of the Cedar Cove books. They picked the perfect people to cast as the characters.
One other thing that I would love to mention is that I got picked to participate in the Debbie Macomber Fan Ambassador program. So hopefully, I will be able to bring you more behind the scenes information.

Review originally published at The Bookwyrm's Hoard.
Misunderstandings and forgiveness seem to be the theme of Rose Harbor in Bloom. B&B owner Jo Marie Rose has a tiff with her friend and handyman, the taciturn and very private Mark Taylor, just as Jo Marie is facing several personal challenges of her own. The official celebration of the inn's opening is coming up, and the rose garden Jo Marie envisions is nowhere near completed. More serious is that nearly a year after his death, her husband's remains may have been located in Afghanistan, but one body is missing. Is it Paul? Could he still be alive?
Meanwhile, the inn is completely full for the long weekend. There are Kent and Julie, a couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary -- if they can stop bickering long enough. There's Annie, their granddaughter, a party planner who has spent months getting every detail of their celebration perfect while trying to avoid her cheating ex-fiance. Oliver Sutton, Kent and Julie's neighbor and a Annie's childhood nemesis, drove the older couple up to Cedar Cove and is staying for the celebration, much to Annie's dismay.
The rest of the rooms are filled with family and friends, with one exception. Mary Smith has returned to the West Coast for the first time in almost 20 years. Her high-powered career, indeed her entire life, has been overturned by a devastating diagnosis, and there's someone she wants to see -- if she can find the courage.
Like all of Macomber's books, Rose Harbor in Bloom is a warm, compassionate, feel-good novel. The characters and their relationships take center stage, but some of the ambiance of Cedar Cove shines through. The inn itself seems to be a special place, a place where misunderstandings can be set right, relationships mended, and broken hearts set on the path to healing. Macomber doesn't stoop to insta-love or unrealistically perfect endings; while every character's story ends well, they don't really end. In some cases, it's more that the characters come to a beginning, or to a new resolution or resumption of what already existed.
That said, I did feel that one character was too quick to forgive two related and incredibly painful acts by another character. On the other hand, his forgiveness was consistent with the sort of person he was and with his feelings toward the other character, so it worked even though it felt a little too perfect. (Besides, we've all known people who are too slow to forgive, who hold a grudge too long; why shouldn't the opposite be true occasionally as well?) That one flaw, and the predictability which is after all part of Debbie Macomber's charm, are the only negatives I can point to in an otherwise enjoyable and comforting novel.
NOTE: On my blog, I rated this 3.5 stars, not 3.
FTC disclosure: I received a review copy from the publisher for an honest review.

Very enjoyable Debbie Macomber. Good characterization. I feel , along with the characters, their happiness and their pain. These characters are my friends.
