This book had a lot of potential. Unfortunately I was more interested in the side characters than the main ones and for that I gave this book 3 stars. I want to read the rest of the series though because I'm intrigued.

The main romance was just fine, but why were their so many point of view changes?

Utterly silly, plot made little sense, no one really grows as characters?, too many unresolved issues

Not Eloisa James best work but still very enjoyable. I liked that it was a historical romance storyline I hadn’t seen before. The only downfall was too many POVs, I actually got confused in a few places.

A nice read, quite entertaining.

Here’s a quote that I found funny:
“You prepared the canvas (kisses) and then threw on some background (special attention to certain parts of the body) and then you painted the main event. With your brush, ha ha.” - Damon

Not my favorite. The story was fine, the characters were... fine... overall, just fine. No interest in reading the rest of the series

Reading this is like watching a soap opera. Tons of characters, lots of talking, lots of flirting, and nothing really happens for pages and pages. Also if you like chess? You’re in for a treat I guess?

Roberta is a really annoying FMC. Just the worst kind of woman who declares she loves someone immediately after laying eyes on them and then goes on to bang her cousin (very far removed but they keep talking about it and it’s weird).

There is a sword fight which is kind of cool. I bumped this rating up from a two bc I listened to part of this and the narrator is excellent.

Surely the series gets better from here? This is my first book by this author and if she weren't so highly recommended, it would also be my last.

I liked the characters and the dialogue but the story lines were just so messy; so much so that this seemed more like a prologue than a stand alone novel.
