I really enjoyed this novel overall especially because of my adoration for the character Livie. I found myself relating to her character particularly at the beginning of the book. I was not a fan of how certain things unfolded because they seemed to go against her character. I also really enjoyed learning about Ashton, the topic of Alzheimers was discussed very appropriately and I enjoyed seeing how his story played out. He had many sweet moments between him and Livie. The ending felt rushed and similar to Ten Tiny Breaths felt a bit unrealistic and convenient at certain points. Dr. Stayner was a character I appreciated a lot in the first novel but felt extremely disconnected to in this novel. Many of his lines were very cringey and despite him being depicted as unconventional this took it to the next level. Despite this, I still adored the novel. The secondary characters in this book really do shine and it was nice to also connect with characters from the previous book that I enjoyed.

4⭐️. I can’t express how much I love KA Tucker books! I thought I loved the first book, didn’t know I would love this one even more. I shouldn’t have loved it as much as I did because it has SO many problematic elements that I am turning a blind eye to because I truly enjoyed this book. Without any spoilers, OK mild spoiler. I didn’t love the tidy ending. It didn’t feel true to the book and for an 18 year old… the fairy godfather feeling doesn’t really work for me. I need a Stayner in my life to fix all my problems. But there’s something about these emo romances that really strings me along in the best way. I may need therapy.

I have a lot of thoughts and opinions. But I read this book over a week ago and was so dissatisfied it's taken me...9 days to write my review. So, let's get into it.

*spoilers ahead* stop reading now if you don't want to be spoiled!

SpoilerThe Characters: *sigh* The characters... Livie was kind of annoying. Like I get the entire character arc of losing her parents and then wanting to live out what would make them proud. But, for being a freshman in college, she felt weirdly mature. Maybe she had to grow up a bit quicker with the loss of her parents, but her character didn't seem to make sense. Now, Ashton. I cannot stand. He CONSTANTLY cheated on his girlfriend and it was romanticized. Like, once a cheater, always a cheater. And Livie was mad about it at first, but somehow got past it easily? Oh, OKAY. The frat brothers were annoying, I actually didn't mind Reagan. Livie's sister also wasn't awful. The therapist was sooo weird. I feel like he overstepped his boundaries when he showed up at Princeton? Um, hello? Overall, I liked Reagan the best.

The Plot: The plot was fine. Nothing really to rave about in my opinion. Like Livie can fix Ashton, yay! And despite their troubled pasts they can move forward and love each other. OH MY GOSH. The fact Ashton was like you're my "forever girl" after one night of interractions?? Huh?? Absolutely not. If someone said that, they give creeper vibes and you should run. FAR. Also. I saw someone point this out in another review and I thought it worth bringing it up. When Livie told the twins with leukemia that they shouldn't talk about death and that's off-limits - that's teaches poor coping behaviors. They should feel comfortable talking about that. I'm not a specialist in this area at all, but avoidance is not normally the way to go.

The Book Art/Plot: 1/10. I didn't like this one as much. The girl does not look like an 18-year-old?? Giving Christian autumn vibes.

My Critiques: Everything. The plot. The characters. The cover art. Can't say I was a fan.

Overall, I do not plan on reading any other books similar to this. It was painful to read and I almost DNFed it.

Pretty much your typical good-girl-meets-bad-boy book. Nothing new here.

It was still enjoyable, though the very high rating is kind of surprising for me as this was rather average. I was much more hooked by Ten Tiny Breaths or Burying Water and expected a bit more from Tucker here.

I really enjoyed One Tiny Lie. A lot of other readers actually liked OTL better than Ten Tiny Breaths but I didn't really feel the same way. It's not that I really liked one better than the other, they were just different. Although Kacey and Livie are sisters they are so very different.

One Tiny Lie is Livie's story and picks up a few years after Ten Tiny Breaths. Livie's on her way to Princeton to fulfill her dream of becoming a pediatric oncologist at her father's Alma mater. Despite her parent's tragic death Livie has never experienced any typical teenage rebellion which worries Kacey. So Kacey sets Livie up to talk with her psychiatrist Dr. Strayer. Dr. Strayer's methods are anything but normal (and really, borderline, if not unethical), often prompting Livie to partake in all kinds of antics. Livie completes all of Dr. Strayer's tasks. She even begins, with Dr. Strayer's help, volunterring at a local hospital, spending time with the children in the oncology department.

On her first night at Princeton, and after a few drinks, Livie meets Ashton. Ashton literally steals a kiss, in the form of stealing her Jell-O shot, from Livie which both enrages and excites her. Ashton is everything Livie doesn't want, he's arrogant, reckless, and involved with somebody else. Although their chemistry is undeniable, Livie ignores her attraction to Ashton and sets her sights on Connor.

What ensues is a whole mess of situations that force Ashton and Livie together and the tension between them begins to boil. Livie is forced to make a lot of really difficult decisions. Does she really want to be a doctor? Can she be happy with Connor? Will she ever stop feeling the way she does about Ashton? Is Princeton the right school for her?

Here's where things get tricky. Livie makes some questionable choices and I've read a lot of reviews bashing her for her mistakes. I just want to say, she's 18 years old, she's dealt with the death of both her parent's, and her sister spiraling out of control as a result of their death. I think she has the right to make some mistakes. Could she have handled things better? Yes, but I empathize with her confusion and indecisiveness. It's difficult realizing who you are and who you think you should be.

I loved the chemistry between Ashton and Livie. It's rare that I find a couple that really makes me feel all giddy. I felt like every time things got close to escalating the brakes were slammed. I found myself screaming in my head "OMG, REALLY, JUST GIVE IN!" Anyways, there is a bit of a love triangle times two since Livie is in a sort-of relationship with Connor and Ashton is in a relationship with another girl (arranged by his father).

Anyways, One Tiny Lie has both Livie and Ashton figuring their lives out and struggling with some pretty heavy issues. I found the story to be engaging and exciting from start to finish. The only thing I wish is that Connor was a little more three-dimensional, as I felt he was a bit of an afterthought at times. I would highly recommend One Tiny Lie.

Why does everyone care if Livie just wants to be sweat and subtle and quite?

There's nothing wrong with that.

Arrrr

Dr Stayner is a huge part of this change and I don't get the logic on why. There's nothing wrong with being a good student or a good human being. Period. Why is he making such a fuss on how Livie should live a life. I mean, is she not doing it by just being a fucking good person. Shit. I really don't get it. Ugh.

So now everything is fucked up,
Spoiler even if it did have a somewhat happy ending, but shit.

And still he ends up being the good guy out of all of this shit that has happened.

And Livie girl, what is up?
Spoiler Giving up on Princeton?
Come on!

Ugh

P.S. This is a bit better that Ten Tiny Breaths but equally frustrating because of you Stayner.

You piece of shit.
