Another awesome installment in the Cut and Run series by Abigail Roux. My basic reactions to reading Ball and Chain were aww, no way, oh, WTF, OMG, 35 minutes left no way how can all the things happen, Finally.
My least favourite one in the series but still a favourite. I expected more of Ty&Zane and less Nick since this is not the Sidewinder series but fortunately that didn't bother me too much.(Yeah let's thank the perfection named Kelly Abbott for that.)

4.5 Stars ~ I’ve been so reluctant to read Ball & Chain that it took it coming out in audio before I was tempted to continue with the Cut & Run series. I was afraid I would be disappointed.
Not so! I mean… it wasn’t quite what I expected, but it did hold a surprise or two.
What I liked about Ball & Chain was that it just wasn’t about Ty and Zane, but I got the added bonus of Nick and Kelly from the Sidewinder series, which made the book more interesting. Oh, there was cloak and dagger in this story, but there was also more relationship building between the characters. I learned how Ty and Nick first became friends and why, at some point in their lives, they almost lost that friendship—Ty was at fault for that one. Surprise! I also learned a little bit about Nick, and about his family history and what makes him tick.
It was also nice to see some more growth between Ty and Zane, that they’ve move from enemies to lovers during the series and to a more established relationship, and that they show more tenderness towards each other.
I also love the part when Nick finally told Ty that maybe drinking in front of Zane was a bad idea. Go Nick! There were a lot of reveals in this story that were kind of touching. But… The one that blew me away was who was murdered. Oh, there were a lot of murder victims, but this particular victim kind of choked me up.
In a sense, I’m glad that I waited for the audio version of Ball & Chain, mainly because I don’t think I would have been moved emotionally if I’d read it. J.F. Harding gave an outstanding performance. He brings these characters to life and conveys the emotion that needs to be expressed during certain scenes. So with this in mind, Ball & Chain gets a 4.5 star rating from me, and yes! I would listen to this one again.

And as usual when it comes to Zane and Ty (and Nick and Kelly, now), I loved this book. I was getting a whole Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes dual-vibe the entire time, which was awesome. I have to admit, though, that this was not my most favorite book in the series. Still, it was awesome and there isn't anything I would change, so ignore that last.
The start of this series was so fun. Starting with book 7, it really started to decline for me. Now I feel like i have to finish it, but it feels like more of a chore than anything after this book. This book was all over the place, couldn’t decide if it’s MCs were Ty & Zane or Kelly & Nick (which is it’s own problem because Kelly has never been fleshed out, either in Sidewinder #1 or this series), all the crazy “secrets” about Ty just feel like cheap fodder to create drama and keep people turning pages, and every twist felt contrived and stale. Have to say that this series should have ended with a nice epilogue to book 6.
"Ball & Chain" è l'ultimo volume (per ora, chissà cosa deciderà la Roux..) della serie "Cut & Run" che ho amato e letto con tanto entusiasmo. Ho aspettato questo volume trepidante, felice ed entusiasta quasi contando i giorni.. Ho comprato l'ebook il giorno stesso della sua uscita e l'ho iniziato felice come una Pasqua.. per poi trascinarmelo dietro nemmeno fosse un macigno e rimandando sempre la sua lettura.
Nulla è più triste e sconfortante che leggere una saga ormai andata alla deriva, che si perde immancabilmente nel finale.. E' brutto non ritrovare gli stessi personaggi, le stesse situazioni e tutto ciò che avevamo trovato confortevole nei volumi precedenti, ormai abituati a certi standard; e soprattutto, è davvero spiacevole avere la sensazione che l'autrice si sia disaffezionata ai protagonisti che ha creato (stessa identica sensazione che ho provato con i romanzi della George, che iniziano in modo eccelso e poi pian piano si spengono, lasciando Linley e Havers come fantasmi di sé stessi e vittime di un fato crudele. *Scusate la divagazione, era un appunto importante sulla delusione :D*)
E' proprio ciò che mi è successo con "Ball & chain", che riceve 4* per la stima e l'affetto dei volumi precedenti, non perché mi abbia coinvolto al punto giusto, ecco.
La Roux non è mai stata quella che si dice una thrillerista eccelsa e la parte dedicata al mistero per me è sempre stata in secondo piano così da lasciare più spazio ai personaggi, Ty e Zane. In questo volume l'autrice cerca di riprendersi con una storia "forte" e intricata (fallendo miseramente) lasciando però meno spazio di manovra ai due poveracci. Non li ho riconosciuti soprattutto perché hanno agito in modo del tutto differente da come hano fatto nei sette volumi precedenti..
Personalità multipla che colpisce tutti come un virus?? Chi lo sa!!
In particolare, mi ha infastidito il modo in cui l'autrice cerca di uscire dalla situazione assurda in cui si era cacciata nel volume precedente in cui i Sidewinders sono richiamati in azione. Vengono descritti tutti come toccati dall'esperienza, cambiati e addirittura traumatizzati, e ci viene costantemente ricordato come Ty (per prenderne uno in esempio) non sorrida più e sia molto più serio..
Poi però andando a contare sul Kindle quante volte vengono ripetute le parole "smile", "laugh", "Grin", "smirk", viene da pensare che qualcosa non torna e che la Roux non sappia nemmeno lei cosa voglia scrivere :(
Avrei davvero preferito che la storia finisse un paio di volumi prima.. Mi sarebbero mancati, per carità, ma una fine così no!!
Non so nemmeno se voglio comprare il cartaceo (pur possedendo gli altri).. Rendiamoci conto di quanto sia grave la situazione!! XD

Still love this series. I lovelovelove the main characters, feeling like I know them. I love the interactions between all the team members. The plot kept me reading. I'll be sad at the conclusion of the series, but I'll probably read the last one soon, anyway.
