I never leave 1-star reviews, but I had to for this. This book made me feel sick. It takes an 18-year-old girl, still broken from years of sexual abuse by her father, and throws her into a relationship with a 31-year-old man. That’s not romance. That’s twisting her trauma into a love story. I honestly don’t understand how anyone can root for this relationship. She’s traumatized and barely an adult, and he’s a grown man with a kid. The whole thing felt wrong from beginning to end.
And the choices the author made? Even worse. The way her mother’s complete failure to protect her was brushed off or excused made me furious. Then add in the cheating, the toxic jealousy, the possessiveness disguised as love—and on top of that, Thayer’s son dying just to create drama, followed by her pregnancy? Pointless, manipulative, and disgusting. Everyone in this book needed therapy, not a “romance.” To me, this wasn’t love at all. It was abuse dressed up in pretty packaging, and I hated every second of it.

This is diabolical WTH?? So many things are happening all at once towards the end. You killed off the child then proceed to have the kind of ending ?? I would honestly prefer it if she was not pregnant as I want her to figure things out for herself and have some kind of individuality… hopefully maybe heal then see how their relationship will progress??

it’s so bad i want to give it a 0 but i’ll give you a “will read the second one asap” cause you can’t give me an open ending and expect me not to read the next book.
re-read: believe it or not, I’ve found myself thinking abt this story a lot over the last year. maybe my taste has gotten cheaper but this is not half bad after all !!!
