3.93 AVERAGE

Solid VC Andrews throwback. The ending is unrealistic and melodramatic, but so was VC Andrews.

3.75 I will never understand this form of abuse.

I received an advanced reading copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review via NetGalley.

Here's the thing: I don't know how to honestly review this one. I don't know how many stars I would give it.

You know what I would give it? A GIANT trigger warning.

I flew through it, but then I cried after and they weren't happy tears.

I'm giving 2 stars because NetGalley requires stars, but I honestly don't know if that is true. I want to give it more for how "can't put it down" it was and I want to give it less for the trauma dredged up by it.

I just don't know, so in the meantime, I don't recommend.

Dark book. Heavy topic. Dysfunctional family. Story moved fast and kept me engage. Worth the read. Young equestrian rider coached by her dad.

I don’t even know what to say. I received this as a Goodreads giveaway and had no idea what to expect. I would give this 3.5 stars. The subject matter is triggering and downright hard to get through at times. I would not recommend this book to anyone who had previously experienced domestic violence/sexual assault. I get the comparisons to V.C. Andrews, but I feel this book is more dark and twisted.

Wow. I have chills after reading this. This story was dark but empowering. The protagonist was so strong. I can’t imagine the people who go through similar things and the strength they find along the way. I couldn’t put this book down. It’s a page turner for everyone.

This was a hard read with the continual violence and I had hoped for a different ending.

3.5 better than average but rather disturbing content.

I read about half of this and decided I didn’t want to make myself finish it. It’s a very contradictory and somewhat unrealistic story of abuse in my opinion. I am certainly not trying to be one of those people who’s a big moralist about media but I think we should leave content like this to survivors who bravely share their experiences as opposed to sensationalist and melodramatic fiction. Yes I think it’s possible to be exploitive towards characters because I feel like it inadvertently exploits real victims of abuse. But then again maybe I’m just a little too sensitive lol
