My first book by Samantha Young was On Loverose Lane. I was super excited to read book 2 A Royal Mile. Its a slow burn. I did like this book but enjoyed it a whole lot more once it got spicy. But this is more personal preference than anything.
I enjoyed the angst and side characters. Some of the choices Sebastian made did upset me and i wanted to smack him upside the head. I feel he needed to grovel a bit more. I truly enjoyed the twist that made me gasp. That is always wonderful.
I look forward to book 3 and hope it’s about the couple i think it is. I am giving this book an 3.5⭐️ and 2.5 🌶. When the spice happens it is fantastic and who doesn't love a dirty mouth.

This is the continuation of the Return to Dublin series with Lily and Sebastian. Lily is in college and running her own podcast with her friends. After being apart of podcast sabotage, Sebastian tries his hardest to get back into lilys good graces. They eventually become inseparable best friends. And while the attraction is undeniable, Sebastian is so afraid to lose Lily.. he continues to friend zone her. Until he literally can’t take it anymore.

The first one of this series was definitely my favorite! This one was just ok for me but still enjoyed Lily and Sebastian

***ARC Review***
A Royal Mile (Return to Dublin Street #2) by Samantha Young
Out now - Free on Kindle unlimited!

This book had me hooked from the start! There were many great tropes, such as: older college, Scottish and English MCs, royalty (down the line), enemies to friends to lovers, former playboy MMC, tortured hero, will they won't they, slow burn, and angst.

Sebastian and Lily have a rocky start due to a podcast rivalry and a hidden identity. We start out with a dual timeline in which we learn what transpired between them, why Lily now hates Sebastian, and why he's having to work so hard to convince her to be his friend. They eventually get there, and he friend-zones her quite spectacularly! (For ✨REASONS✨)

I actually loved how slow this relationship plays out. I enjoyed their journey to friendship, but I especially enjoyed experiencing that friendship play out and deepen. I loved them together so much, and how he was sure to always support her and show her what she deserves-- Sebastian was so unintentionally swoony at times! He clearly cares for her so much, but is also extremely attracted to her, and I found myself cursing him in my head for being so in denial about how he felt about Lily. (Sir, those are not just best friends feelings!!!)

I did start to feel really bad for Lily, though, as his mixed signals were dizzying, making her very real feelings for Sebastian quite torturous. There's nothing more frustrating than the ol' "I don't want you, but I don't want anyone else to have you either!"
Lily being a psychology major added such an interesting angle to their story, as she was very perceptive and understood other peoples' motivations better they did!

I don't want to spoil the story, but suffice it to say there are some heavy topics, such as insecurity (body and otherwise), past abuse, past traumatic events, self-punishing, manipulation, and strained family (& royal family) dynamics. Between the swooning, the angst, the spice, and the drama, this book was a great read!

I loved the Edinburgh setting and the glimpses into the OG Dublin Street families, and I am champing at the bit to get to Baird's story!

4.5⭐ 2.25🌶️

I read an advanced copy of this book, and this is my honest review. Thank you to Samantha Young and Valentine PR for the ARC!

Tropes:
- Enemies -> Friends to Lovers
- Playboy Royal MMC
- Angsty
- College Students
- Mutual Pining

Ooooo my god, the way I loved this book!! I’m such a sucker for friends to lovers with pining that fills you with so much angst and longing.

Sebastian and Lily are in their senior year attending the same college. Lily is the shy introvert that provides her point of view on a dating podcast. Sebastian is the playboy, non commitment type. Together they find a friendship that deeply bonds them.

Lily may be shy but she is no pushover. She is a strong brilliant woman that is braver than most people I know. I love her so much. She has been through it in her past relationships that makes it hard for her to embrace every part of who she is. Sebastian brings out her true self that isn’t guarded or overthinking. I related to her so so much!

Sebastian falls so head over heels for Lily and it may be my favorite thing ever. I’m still thinking about how down bad he is. Chefs kiss! He has his struggles too and he has so many layers. I didn’t see that coming and it really brought a lot to the story and their relationship.

Samantha filled this book with her very best! This series has me in a choke hold!

I just adore this whole second generation series of one of my all time favorite romance series- it's been so amazing to be back in the Dublin Street world!  A Royal Mile is a heartfelt friends-to-lovers story filled with slow-burn pining and emotional restraint, chock full of those flawed by endearing Samantha Young characters I always adore and her beautifully emotional prose.

The friends to lovers tension really builds in this one- so much pining and a good dose of angst! And also plenty of banter and push-pull moments just on the edge of caving. A slow burning longing that builds up until these two finally recognize what's between them and take the risk. Their chemistry explodes, all that buried emotion bubbling to the surface. And just when you think things are smoothing out, Samantha throws in a late twist that shakes things up too.

Royal romances aren’t usually my favorite and the pacing of this felt a bit slow in places with some of the drama and slow burn, but the couple’s relationship is really endearing and the HEA was worth the wait. All in all, a fantastic addition to the series that I'm loving so far. If you love angsty romance, slow-burn chemistry, friends to lovers pining, sharp banter, and royal romance with a modern twist, this one’s definitely worth picking up.

Thank you so much Samantha and VPR for the goodies too! So happy to have it on my Samantha shelf with all my On Dublin Street world goodies!

A Royal Mile , the second novel in the Return to Dublin Street series, introduces us to Lily and Sebastian.

I always love the idea of second generation novels and, knowing Samantha Young's work well, I knew that I'd be swept up in a story of the present whilst still paying proper homage to what has gone before.

Fear not though, this book much like the first in the series can be read and thoroughly enjoyed as standalone novels BUT, in my opinion, you'll want to follow this series and may even go back to the ODS series.

The story of Lily and Sebastian takes 'slow burn' to a whole new level as these friends fight their attraction to each for such a long time before breaking.

The development of the romantic relationship that follows is well worth the wait, and you'll be swept up in the way Sebastian worships Lily and the ground she walks upon.

I really liked the supporting cast  in this novel, too, and I hope I see more of them, even if it's not part of this latest series.

I don't know what's next for Samantha Young, but regardless, I can't wait!

I absolutely loved this book! First…I 100% recommend everyone to listen to the audio! Man oh man!!! The narrators were so good!!! They brought these characters to life!!! Not gonna lie I just laid down and shut my eyes and let the movie in my mind begin! I was hooked immediately!! It was a one sit listen for me!! This is definitely one of those reads that when it ends you are going to start whining that it ended! This book could have kept going on for so much longer! I loved Lilly and Sebastian so much!! If you are a fan of enemies to friends, friends to lovers, college, slow burn romances make sure to read this one!!
