This was uhh…a journey. The plot twists were great ideas but poorly executed. If written differently and if the plot didn’t have so many holes it would’ve been great. The writing was giving wattpad and honestly I had to frequently take breaks because it was so cringe and did not read like actually people were engaging in the dialogue written. At least the sex scenes were okay but even those were a little cringe too. Hopefully the series gets better and Anas writing improves too.
I just super have an unpopular opinion because i really liked the first half of this book & then Alex got tooooo much for me the last half. I understand the possessive thing but it got to be TOO much for me that gave me a ick (i KNOW people, my FRIENDS in Britain blah blah blah)
Also the middle of the book was kindof all over the place, like one chapter they’re hooking up & the next sentence they’re interrogating her father for attempted murder ?
i will continue the series because i hear it only gets better
Him buying her a phone was pretty funny tho & also buying out her gallery was super cute but also predictable because of the first half of the book

ava’s DAD? okay… brother’s best friend is fun, but I just wasn’t obsessed with this. alex and ava as a couple are really fun in everybody else’s books besides theirs :) four stars because he spent a year walking her home, and I just love that
➜ hero - Alex is rainstorms and darkness,I struggled with Alex at first because he comes off so emotionless and closed off, yet he has these profound moments of love with Ava. During my reread, I realized he's actually not emotionless at all, he just only open with Ava. She brings out his emotions and makes him feel them all. He helps her overcome her phobia, protects her from her ex, and has the “touch her and I’ll end you” level of possessiveness. I came to really love Alex because you could tell how much he cared about Ava and how much she changed his life. Alex messes up big time and grovels for a year.
➜ heroine - Ava is so strong and resilient. She has been through so much that you would expect her to be jaded from the world. Despite the hardships, Ava is full of brightness and love. She's found the joy in life and she refuses to let her light be dulled out. Even when Alex let's her down, she picks the pieces back up. Ava is the queen for making Alex grovel and I love her for it.
➜ overall review - The storyline is the hook line, and sinker. I never would have thought that Ava had such a depressing background and how it all connects to Alex's storyline and what is his objective was in the beginning. It's all the feels. I can.not.stop.thinking.about this book. This is my first Ana Huang book I have read and it certainly won’t be my last. I was expecting this book to be heavy on the smut and low on the plot but I was pleasantly surprised that it was the other way around. This book was a treat for me. It’s not the trope that I’ve been reading recently so it was a nice change. Alex and Ava are the ‘out of bounds, brothers best friend’ couple. But with even more of a twist. I love the twist that was thrown in,

I liked the book and the characters, but something was sort of missing by the end. A year of groweling and showing up, but it fell flat by the end. I get that a year is a lot of resistance and all, but really... she gave up too fast when she did. Frankly saying I was not a fan of the ending at all; the Philadelphia fiasco was too far apart from the make-up. Feels like "After" series remake. Otherwise, the mafia - CEO type of main character is always welcome on my pages, Mr. Grumpy and Mrs. Sunshine theme. Let's continue the series and see. As for the language, I liked it a lot.
