This book was a huge miss for me. I jumped right into this after giving All Rhodes Lead Here 4.5 stars thinking it would be a sure hit but I was so wrong. Let me start with the good, I loved Vanessa. She was a great FMC who was sometimes a little too trusting and selfless but she and Zac made this book tolerable. Aiden on the other hand was a huge walking red flag from start to finish. He treated Vanessa like garbage for two years and then when she quits he tries to get her to come back but barely apologizes and keeps acting the same way. He never shows his feelings, constantly lets Vanessa down, barely to talks to her, never acknowledges everything she does for him even though she is no longer his assistant. By the end of the book I wanted to scream at Vanessa to run the hell away from Aiden. I’m so disappointed in this book after I hears such good things about it.

I love slow burn and sports so this is perfect. Realistic progression Vanessa and Aiden friendship ,trust and gradually falling for each other.

“I don’t have time to bother trying to have a relationship, and I don’t like most people. Women included. ”
I wrung my hands, which were still between our two bodies. “You like me a little.”
“A little,” he repeated with only a small curve to the corners of his mouth.

Awwww!!! Love this book

OMG!! This book is the perfect slow burn. Mariana Zapata is a new-to-me writer, and I'm thrilled that she has so many other books for me to read.

Right away I adored Vanessa and how she handled Aiden. She is a strong, driven woman who knew what choices she needed to make to have the life of her dreams. I loved watching the relationship between Vanessa and Aiden evolve.

4.25/5 stars

I had forgotten how slow Mariana Zapata's slow burns were but they are SO good.

The beginning was quite slow, a little boring, a lot more than I remembered. I knew it would get better because I had rated this 5 stars years ago and thank god I pushed through because once the romance started to happen, I could not stop reading. The second half made me gasp, smile, giggle and scream so many times!! I simply loved everything about it (second half only). Aiden is so annoying and a "bad person" in the beginning. Very self-centered and grumpy. Because of this, him being sweet with his actions or with words hits so much harder. Seeing him change was the best part of the book.

I can't believe there wasn't a third-act break-up in the book and thank god it didn't! The (very slow) slow burn by itself was enough. Having a third-act break-up would've been unnecessary and annoying.

I can't wait to read more Mariana Zapata's books!

*****

Would I recommend this to others? Yes with a slow burn disclaimer
Would I reread this? Yes
Is this book forgettable? No
