Gabor Mate believes in a better approach to health in our culture, and he backs it up with science. I did not think there would so much material to confirm his notion that unprocessed trauma can lead to higher rate of disease, but the studies are there. At times he can sound a bit soap-boxy, especially when the case studies fall to the wayside and his opinion enters the fray a bit more than usual. However, this sort of proselytizing doesn't ever threaten to overtake the pace of his argument. Also, his willingness to discuss his own foibles is refreshing and adds an immediacy that gives the book a certain honesty. Could have been shorter though!
