Very interesting in general, but I found myself skipping chapters because the anecdotes became overwhelming at some point.
I wouldn’t say this book was life-changing for me, but it was mind-shifting. I didn’t agree with everything in the book (the part about psychedelic drugs was not for me), but I could see the connections that were made between mind and body. I also really appreciated that Dr Gabor made it clear that he wasn’t prescribing a one-size-fits-all approach, and that he gave multiple examples of people who used western medicine coupled with mind-health to overcome their illness, and those who were able to heal their illness through overcoming their mind. Solid 3.5 from me.

Depressing AF. I have no idea why I bothered to finish this book, it was stuff I already know. If you didn't know this it would be helpful. I was hoping for more fixes and less society is awful.
Moderate: Genocide, Mental illness, Racism, Rape, Violence, War
Minor: Sexual assault, Police brutality

This one is hard for me to rate. This book is like drinking out of a firehouse of information. I think Mate makes a lot of important points and I think that the underlying message is clear and relevant to how our culture and society has failed us. However, 75% of this book reads a bit like fear mongering. And wow, the chapters on how easily trauma can be inflicted on children made me even more thrilled than I already am that I'm not a parent. It's very negative and scary information, then the last quarter of the book tries to make you feel better by exploring some poignant but also some very niche options. It also sometimes felt like the author was saying that, "hey, even if you have cancer, all you need to do is work on yourself and be authentic and it'll go away!! cool right?!" That felt icky to me. So while I got a lot out of this and I agree with a lot of what the author was trying to convey, I still felt a little bit weird about some of it.
I picked up this book wanting to agree with it, but its science was shaky at best and relied far too much on anecdotal “evidence”. The style was long-winded and tedious. I could not stand the prospect of reading another 300 pages of the same thing.
