The last 4 chapters are gold, beautiful solutions to the 1st part of the book.

so many hot takes, but like I agree with most of the general premises I think

DID NOT FINISH: 0%

I did the audiobook version of this. It's quite long and I'm not sure it really needed to be as long as it was. I was enjoying it for the most part, but I found it very unnecessary to mimic random accents. This isn't a fictional story where you're trying to show different voices for different characters. It wasn't very consistent either, which made it seem even more unnecessary. An English accent, German accent, French accent?
it was 100% unnecessary to mimic an "ASL speech pattern." You can say someone's speech improved without mimicking a speech impediment.

Great book - Mate does an amazing job emphasizing the role of social and cultural factors on mental and physical health.

One of the disappointing quirks of Goodreads is that the reviews that are often boosted to the top of a book’s page are frequently hatchet jobs that so completely miss the mark you can’t help but wonder why the reader picked up the book in the first place. Such is currently the situation with The Myth of Normal. Don’t be fooled by pissy two-star smear jobs; this is a great, great book and everyone should read it.

I’ve been telling everyone I know to read this book. Illuminating about trauma and illness and the mind body connection.
