Deal Breakers

3.51 AVERAGE

I had no idea what to expect going into this book but I LOVED every single moment of it!

The story starts when Riley and Devyn are freshman and from the moment, they meet there is connection. Riley is attracted to Devyn; however, she firmly puts him in the friend zone and they spend the remainder of their college years are best friends. I loved seeing their friendship progress throughout their time in college. It was fun, sweet, and they just had a great bond. Flash forward five years later and they are in a new city, a new state and both at different parts in their lives.

Riley and Devyn had AMAZING chemistry from being best friends, to their little one-night stand, to the future. The connection they had never seemed to fade. They had some ups and downs throughout the story, but always seemed to work things out. Little Nathan was super adorable and I loved the moments between him and Devyn and him and Riley. They were so sweet and had me swooning.

Deal Breakers is a fun, light hearted, friends to lovers, secret baby romance that you’ll be able to read in a weekend. A MUST READ!

This is the first book I've read by this author and I absolutely loved it! This was a fun and quick read. It also had a little drama in it for some conflict which I liked. Deal Breakers was a friends to lovers story that's written differently than most of those stories. The first chapter starts when Riley and Devyn are both Freshmen in college. They became the best friends immediately even though Riley wanted more. Each chapter after that became a year later until they're seniors and about to graduate college. Devyn doesn't want to graduate a virgin so she asks Riley to take her virginity. They make a deal that for 24 hours they'd be friends with benefits. Riley kept making me swoon over the things he planned for Devyn. He wanted her whole day magical and he definitely accomplished that. Feelings were tested and they lost contact until seven years later where the second part of the story picks up. Once again feeling will be tested and secrets revealed.

I really liked the characters in this story! The relationship between Riley and Devyn was really something. I won't say who this person is so I don't spoil anything, but I LOVED Nathan! He was hilarious and adorable. I'm so happy that the author is going to be writing books for the other characters. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with them.

This book was told in first person by the hero and heroine's POV.

This was a sweet friends to lovers romance. Riley McIntyre first time meeting Devyn Summer had my heart from the start; however, having certain goals and plans in place holds off anything more than friendship. They were the best friends that were there for each other even to the point where Devyn even asks a favor from the one person she trusts the most before starting life in an "adult" world. Little did they expect that the one night would change the course of their lives. Surprising words was said left Riley leaving sooner than planned.

Years have past and Riley being away from his best friend is no longer an option for him. Life without her was not the same and he ends up finding a job to be closer to Devyn. He is determined and wanting to be more with the one woman that always had his heart. Someone he has always wanted to pursue but has always held back. Unexpectedly his plan takes place within days of moving.

Get ready to fall in love with Riley and Devyn's story. It was filled with such intensity for more but life plans got in the way. Your heart wants what the heart wants and getting to realize what we really want and need is the challenge and hoping fate will fall into place accordingly.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this AMAZING book! I have read all of Laura's books and have truly fallen in love with all of them. This book definitely did not disappoint!

A few of my favorite quotes:
"I'm free-balling!"
"Balls to the wall baby!"

This book will have you laughing your butt off while making you feel, ALL the feels.

The characters in this book have been some of my favorite of all time! I usually don't like books that have alternative POV. After reading this book I've realized... I just haven't read any that have been well written! The love, even sometimes anger, that is felt, and told through alternate POV's is so real. It seems like Riley and Devyn are you're best friends.

Thank you Laura Lee (for yet another, totally worth it, book hangover)!!!

3.5 stars. The writing was good and the characters had good chemistry but the book went a little too fast for me and wrapped up quicker and with less drama then I anticipated. Overall good, quick, and dirty read

What a wonderfully written book! I have read many of Laura Lee's books and this one is just as awesome! The characters are amazing. Laughter and tears, passion and love, this book has it all. I love when a book is written so good, that you feel the love between two people. You actually believe that you are with them or at least want to be them. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!

Ahhhh young innocent sweet love! This book had it all, it was fun, funny, sweet and steamy! Devyn and Riley’s story was awesome, and it was great to live it from the very beginning; I liked that we got that before and after taste. It was just enough detail that we could follow along and but not too much detail that we got bored and bogged down in the story. Riley is an absolute sweetheart after he realised what had happened all those years ago, he was prepared to step up and step in and make sure he got his family back, as Riley says, “never settle”. I’m glad Devyn realised what she was doing and stopped it quick smart. Highly recommended if you’re after a fun, fast read.

the writing just wasn't for me.

An ARc was provided to me by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Riley has the best friend ever, Devyn, only Devyn is a girl and he is completely in love with her and she doesn't even know it. Riley is the player, the bad boy who brings girls home and forgets their names. Except Devyn, she's always been there since freshman year of college, she's the good girl best friend, they watch sports, spend every day together, and even have sleep overs. One day Devyn changes all of that, it's the end of senior year and she wants Riley to help her take care of her v-card. Riley makes the moment magical, the kind of moment girls dream of, but when it slips from Devyn's lips that she loves Riley, he freaks out and runs. Riley knows he made a mistake and 5 years later he thinks he knows how to make it up to her, but what he doesn't plan on is the big surprise Devyn drops in his lap. Can they get past this secret and forge a life together or are they destined to be just a fleeting perfect moment from senior year?

Riley is your quintessential bad boy, the character we shouldn't like and root for, but Laura Lee did something different with him, she gave us his perspective. That was a game changer for me, getting inside his head and seeing the moments from his eyes really made a difference for me. I didn't love him as a character, I wanted to learn more about him, but I wanted him to get the girl and the life he wanted. I felt for him in ways I do not like to feel for bad boys who leave girls after they say I love you. Devyn and Riley make a cute couple, even after 5 years apart and with a big change in their relationship. The story is a tad predictable, but it plays out well, the minor characters are really funny, and I got the ending I wanted.

I finished this book a couple of weeks ago, but wanted to give myself some time to sit and think on it. Deal Breakers hovered between a 3.5 and a 4 for me, I wanted to love it, but I never grew attached to the characters. I didn't get enough background to feel for them completely, I felt I had to take them only at face value. The story is also fairly predictable and is a very quick read.
