I can’t say enough good about this memoir. I started with the print format and was thankful I switched to the audiobook since his voice (filled with compassion and humor) made this story one I want to listen to over and over again.

I was cutting veggies for dinner and sobbing to one chapter then doing the dishes and laughing hysterically to another (I actually kept looking over my shoulder to ensure my wife hadn’t come into the kitchen, thinking I had lost my mind in a single evening.).

It made me hopeful and happy and want to be besties with him even more. For these reasons and many others, I highly recommend this book.

JVN has been a cheerleader, hairstylist, web series host, podcast host, Applebee’s waiter, and of course a member of Queer Eye’s Fab Five.

I loved the references to Olympic gymnasts and ice skaters throughout, and a committed devotion to powdered doughnuts. More importantly, I respect JVN’s vulnerability and willingness to discuss some not so gorgeous moments of his journey as he was working to achieve his goals and learning to love himself.

I also really love his admiration for his mom (and the sweet quilt she made him of female icons, which is viewable on his insta profile highlights).

“Fake it til you make it, and make it look graceful.”

I have always liked Jonathan and it was so interesting to get to hear their whole story. I was confused sometimes with tracking the timeline of the story but I really enjoyed listening to Jonathan tell the story. There were some really hard parts to listen to but it was enjoyable all the same.

I love Jonathan so much, he has a great positive personality.
It wasn’t one of the best memoirs I’ve read but it was honest and he was being himself, so that’s good enough for me.

I listened to the audiobook of this and I would totally recommend it as your way to take in this book because having it read by Jonathan himself gives you the real feelings he is going through as the book progresses and It made the experience so enjoyable for me. Now about the book it's self. Ever since I saw the first season of the queer eye reboot drop on Netflix and immediately binge-watched it Jonathan was my absolute favourite, his upbeat positive energy and the way he is just so 100% himself not caring what other people think was so inspiring to me and the way he plays with and views gender is just so refreshing so I have been following him on social media ever since. When I heard he was writing a book I knew I was going to read it right away. It was a truly eye-opening sometimes shocking and emotional journey learning about the real Jonathan Van Ness and the struggles he has gone through and overcomes to be the fabulous positive light of a person we see. It was raw a real and I can only imagine how scary it would be to tell the world your true life story when you are seen in a certain way in the spotlight. If you are a real fan of Jonathan this is a must-read. There was ALOT about the world of figure skating and hairstyling as they are both so important to him, and if I was reading this book as someone not interested in those things at all I could see those parts being slow to get through (again, Audio book lol) but having finished this book in one day I would say its worth it.
