Surprisingly easy to read prose for a book written 130 years ago. Despite being noted inspiration for H. P. Lovecraft, I would not consider these stories especially "scary," though they do have a few potent eerie happenings that stay in your mind to ponder. There were aspects of each story that I enjoyed and found interesting. But modern standards it doesn't feel super standout and showstopping but I don't know enough about the history of the horror genre to understand what it broke ground in. Still I enjoyed my time with it. Its a quick read.
